  1. 1. How many wedges do you carry?

    • 0 - What's a wedge?
      0
    • 1 - I have my trusty Niblick and that's all I need.
      0
    • 2 - Doesn't matter which two, but you'd think it would be PW and SW
      4
    • 3 - Very common set up through the 80's and 90's.
      11
    • 4 - Its good to have options
      20
    • 5 - More options or is it because your PW is so delofted you had to stick in another gap wedge?
      3
    • 6 or more - If you answer this, you'd better explain why.

48 degree PW

54.5 degree SW with 12 bounce

58 degree LW with 8 bounce

A gap wedge would be nice for me. I may swap out my 3iron and 4iron for a 4Hybrid and Gap Wedge. Sure would cover more ground.

PW, 52º, 56º, 60º and 64º.

The 64º I rarely use, just bought it for experimenting. The rest I always carry with me. 56º and 60º I use around the green for high shots. For chipping I normally use 7i-9i, but sometimes need more air under the ball and use any wedge.

I'm not good enough to reach the green or within chipping distance most of the times, very often use my high-lofted wedges there. I don't see why I don't progress on the approach shots just because I got 4 wedges, I have few clubs for hitting long shots, I'm good with longer irons, a couple of hybrids and a wood.

I never try to end up 10 meters short of the green so I can wedge it onto it, but I'm not good enough to be there yet, that's why I love my wedges, definately my biggest shot saver on the course.

FOUR:

Callaway X-20 Tour PW (46 deg)

Titleist Vokey Spin Milled:

52 deg
56 deg
60 deg

I got on ye' ole launch monitor and found that the 52 filled the gap perfectly...I was hitting it 10 - 15 yards shorter than the PW. Good thing I got on there because i was going to get the 50 to keep the 4 deg seperation. But its about where the ball goes, not the number on the club. I would make sure you swing them before you buy to see what the yardages are dont just go by the loft.

52, 56, 60. 52 and 60 have low bounce. I use the56 primarily out of traps, but can use the others as well. The 60 is my go-to club for finesse shots around the green. Started using it a lot when I joined a club built in a flood plain that had all the greens elevated from 12 to 30 ft above grade to keep them out of flood waters. Interesting course and it really taught me how to hit a lob shot. It was either learn or shoot a million!

52 and a 56, I don't consider the PW a wedge anymore. I can hit my 52 100yards, so most of the time anything inside 100, I use the 52. Math is hard but with a 100 yard club it is easier to hit those 75 or 50 or 25 yard shots, 3/4 swing, 1/2 swing, 1/4 swing.

My friends always struggled with those types of shots and I could beat them because of my short game. Unfortunately they finally caught on and now they have found their "100 yard" club and do the same thing, time to find new friends.......

I have always had wedge dilemmas in that i can never decide to play four wedges at 46*,50*,54*,and 58* or just three at 48*,54*, and 58*. Of course the choice i make refelcts the course and conditions. but everytime i play four wedges i always miss my 2 iron, and when i put the 2 iron back in the bag it seems i always have the perfect shot for the now missing gap wedge. haha anyone else have similair problems?

I used to carry a 2H, but I find the 4th wedge to be more useful than the 2H.

I appreciate this divergence in the conversation... I have a new bag of clubs myself and I am just totally guessing as to which ones I am going to keep in there and would love a little input. I have Cleveland HiBore XLi Hybrid Irons 3-PW (8 Clubs), 3 CG 14 Wedges in 52,56,60 - The little Niblick 47 chipper (this will not go in unless I figure that it will replace one of the other wedges or PW which it actually may, a HiBore XL 15 & a 17 Fairway wood and a Hibore XLS 11.5 Driver... And of course my Scotty Cameron 2.7 putter... So... what of these would you put in your bag?

Right now I carry 4 wedges that match my Taylormade OS2 irons a 45* PW a 50* Aw,a 55 *SW and a 60* LW, I am in the process of changing to a MB TP 48* PW ,a 54* MB TP SW and a 58* MB LW so I can add a 5W to the bag to fill the gap from 3w to 3 Hybrid. There are some courses that I play that the AW will go in the bag and a hybrid or fairway wood will stay at the house.

I love it when I see someone, especially a little higher handicapper carrying a chipper. I have a buddy who plays off of a strong 7 who will absolutely destroy you with his chipper from about 30 yds in! In your position, I'd get rid of the 60* wedge and hang onto that Niblick. When someone smirks at you, just smile and say something like "well, I'm not really a very good golfer, how much do you want to play for?".....! You might consider dumping the 3 and/or the 4 iron too. Add an easy to hit hybrid in the 20*-22* range.......heck, as long as I'm at it, get rid of the 17* fw wood and get 2 hybrids. One 18* and one 22* and you're darn near set for life.

In David's bag....

Driver: Titleist 910 D-3;  9.5* Diamana Kai'li
3-Wood: Titleist 910F;  15* Diamana Kai'li
Hybrids: Titleist 910H 19* and 21* Diamana Kai'li
Irons: Titleist 695cb 5-Pw

Wedges: Scratch 51-11 TNC grind, Vokey SM-5's;  56-14 F grind and 60-11 K grind
Putter: Scotty Cameron Kombi S
Ball: ProV1
