This is a few days early, but It will be interesting to see what the changes are to our handicaps.  So I'm asking you to compare your last 2019 handicap index, from 15 December, to the HI you see on 6 Jan when it will be calculated under the new WHS system.  You might also want to indicate whether there were scores posted during that time frame, 16 Dec to 5 Jan, that might have influenced the number.

The last calculation my state association sent me was only 0.1 lower.  We’ll see next week, but I don’t anticipate much change from that.

I imagine that less consistent, higher hcp players may see a larger swing as the change from low 10 to low 8 has a greater impact...

But they also saw more of a reduction via the 0.96.

23.4 * 0.96 = 22.5. That could easily cover the dropping of the "medium" two scores.

The calculations show that most people won't change very much.

I looked at mine a couple weeks ago, and I think it showed that I'd drop by 0.3 or 0.4.  I got a round in this past weekend, so that might change just a little, so I'll wait until Monday to post the actual change.  At the single-digit level, removal of the 0.96 multiplier is a pretty small factor, and removal of the #9 and #10 scores is a larger factor, at least for me.  As @iacassays, for a higher handicapper, or maybe a less erratic player, the reverse just might be true.  That's why I thought a poll might be interesting.

Yes it did, as of right now I don't have a handicap 😜

I'll check it on the 6th. I think I did a quick calculation a little while back and it's going to drop a tenth or two.

My virtual club doesn't update until January 15th.  From my spreadsheet calculations my handicap will go up 0.1.    We'll see in two weeks.

Why? Even clubs around here (out of season) will update on the 6th.

Don't know.   I just received an email stating they would have it all ready to go by the 15th.  (TheGrint)

It will take some time for me to have a totally accurate World Handicap.  When we posted via the Golf Assoc. of Michigan site, it was not hole by hole.  The application of ESC (net double bogey) won't be possible on a retroactive basis.  That being said, I don't expect there to be much of a difference.

It doesn’t have to be retroactive. Just going forward. Your handicap will be as accurate as it ever was.

nor do you have to post hole by hole. You just have to understand which holes you are entitled to handicap strokes and apply net double bogey instead of the old ESC if it should occur…

Everyone should update by the sixth. Individual handicaps will then update daily…

That change will result in almost no difference to existing USGA indexes.

Your WHS is valid and "correct" and everything on day 1.

With Argentinian System i played with 2 handicap at my home course from the tips. We don´t have index.
With the new system i have 2.3 index and i will play with 1 handicap at my home course so a difference of 1 stroke.

You're the first with real numbers, congratulations!  Feel free to fill in the poll, even if you didn't have a Handicap Index from before, you know your on-course handicap has changed.

When my index is computed under the WHS it most definitely will be retroactive in the sense that the same set of scores dating back to prior to 10/1/2019, will be used for my "new" index.

And there is no way the USGA will be able to determine if the "81" I posted included only net double bogey or less because all they have is my old ESC adjusted total.

GHIN website won’t even load at this point. I just get the opening page

Yeah, Dave knows. But many people got an email or whatever that showed them what their new number would be. The rest can just look on January 6.

I have no idea, since I haven't checked yet. Yes, I have gotten "warning" e-mails about this from NOGA, the Northern Ohio Golf Assn., but I haven't bothered to check them yet. It's Winter here in northern Ohio, and there's no golf going on! Wherever I land, i land!

I don't mean to be a noodge! But, I believe that the correct term is "indices" rather than "indexes". As fond as you are of correcting me, I find it delightful to correct you now and then!
