I thought they said they had 6 cameras at one point, could not put one at the green?  Not whining, I enjoyed the event and like all of the players so no personal loss.

Rory's putt was closer, so his was probably an easier putt. Knowing a Donald Ross green, he probably had the easier putt ;).

It looked like Matt's was straighter, I should have said. Also they didn't say how much closer it was.

From my quick look, Matt's shot looked closer than Rory on #17.  Why no camera view of the green to confirm?

I thought this too but the angle was really bad. Stupid that it was closest to pin instead of another hole played. I think wolff had a better putt than rory.

That's the thing about TV views, you can't trust them! My buddy likes to do this when we're scrambling. He'll walk up on a green and announce "you're away". I'll walk behind the hole and look at the relative positions of the golf balls to the hole. When it suits my purpose, I'll tell him to  come look at it from my perspective when he's wrong. Pisses him off to no end! Which is part of my design! He makes bad decisions when he's pissed off!

It’s weird seeing them playing in shorts. It’s even weirder to see them carrying their own bags.

I don't for the life of me understand why they were carrying instead of using push carts. Makes no sense to me.

Solidarity for caddies? I seriously wonder if it is a macho thing like it seems to be with most trolley detractors. I was so stoked when the NLU guys started using them and made the push cart mafia shirts.

I'm sure it's because the visual of them carrying the bag is better than the visual of them pushing.

Almost a total flop I’d say. As expected the announcers just couldn’t keep their ball washers shut. But the guys really didn’t engage much anyway so....

The Bill Murray stint was totally unnecessary. First chance in months to watch live golf and they think we want to watch Bill and Mike discuss their hacking golf games?

Shot-commercial-shot-commercial. Brutal. And all in all they played like shit. Nice run by Rickie. Of course now we’ll get to hear how the shortest hitter ran with it...see!?

Putting with the flag out most the time? Guess they just can’t get past the visual aspect of it.

Can only imagine the boredom that would’ve ensued had it been with the ladies.

I enjoyed the match. Disappointing some are making remarks about these guys not being entertaining as they walk the course. They played golf, entertained and did it for a good cause.

it was also cool they played in shorts and carried. Kind of like your weekend round just with better golfers in better shape.

Why is that disappointing?

It’s how many feel.

Disappointing because of the responses by some that are published. Would love more of these events style matches. But when golf writers state their disappointment the likely hood of this dwindles.

I wouldn’t want more things like this, and if there are more the more honest feedback the producers get the better they could be.

You want people to just pretend it was great?

No need to pretend, some don’t like it. That is fine. I think keeping the context of what it was and for is important.

No I would not like it to be the norm but it was nice for the players and sponsors to put it on. Gave us something live to watch.

i also looked at it as a real opportunity that us amateurs could relate to more. Relate in a small way, as i said carrying bag and shorts. More how we dress and head to course. Thats all

Then I'm not sure what you're saying, because what it appears you're saying is "If you didn't like it, you're not allowed to say so."

6 minutes ago, jmanbooyaa said:

It's in the past. Nobody who complains about Bill Murray and the lack of player banter and whatnot is taking away anything from the money companies donated. But if on the heels of this one they announced another, with no changes, you can bet viewership would be decreased, and less money would be raised, but if they announced another with changes based on the feedback, viewership might increase!

But you understand that has nothing to do with the complaints about the broadcast.

Right?

The broadcast was lousy. I tuned out in the middle for almost an hour and did some chores and things around the house. It wasn't exciting. They played pretty poorly. The course was soft. The interviews sucked. The announcers talking over the few times the players would say anything stunk. It was a bad production - only the course and there being four people saved it from being worse than The Match.

Interesting. I suppose the broadcast and actual golf could be considered 2 separate things. The commentary at golf tournaments are usually terrible and constant commercial breaks.

The 4 some also showed it was ok to be outside and play golf. Something people are still on the fence with. Golf and social distancing works.

We will not agree of this, and that is ok. Back to my original post. I am disappointed.

Yes. Because they are.

Yes, but this was an opportunity for the broadcast to be different, especially since the players were mic'd up. It wasn't different, and if anything, it was worse.

So let me make sure I understand this. You aren't disappointed about the lackluster quality of the broadcast, pointless celebrities being brought on that added no value, too many commercials, poor play by the players, announcers constantly talking over players that are mic'd, etc but rather you are disappointed that other people had negative feedback about the event?

Yes disappointed. Not once did I read how they could improve all that you and @iacasmentioned. I am disappointed because like most things printed no real context just nope didn’t like pros wearing shorts.

That is my initial reaction to what I read this morning. Probably should have stated that in my disappointment.

I enjoyed what it was.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
