I am struggling to see where the ball lands, especially on tee shots.  I have started to using neon orange and red balls as those are the easiest for me to see, but still lost 2 or 3 in plain site yesterday that went horribly off line.  Any tips on how to quickly find your ball wold be helpful.

  • iacas changed the title to Seeing the Golf Ball Land?

If your index is really 32, you'll probably have less trouble as you improve.

As a starter, I had that problem a lot and sometimes still do when I'm scuffling. You hit the ball off different parts of the golf club instead of the face and by the time you look down range that ball could be anywhere.

It might even be a good tool to train towards on the range. Hit balls with slow, steady swings with the goal of seeing your shot clearly in the air after you complete the swing.

A couple years ago I bought some orange balls thinking they would be easier to see.   For me, orange is one of the most difficult colors to find on the golf course.  Unless you have a cottonwood tree, white shows up if you are in close proximity.   The easiest color for me is the "yellow" golf ball.   I also find that I can see the ball better with sunglasses (oxymoron since Michigan doesn't have sunshine).

Bottom line, use a color that works best for you.  It is a whole lot easier if you are playing with others and everyone is watching.   This can still be accomplished playing ready golf w/o slowing everyone down.

Note a landscape feature (a tree, a building, a mound) where the ball is headed and walk or drive straight at that thing.

For me, it deoends on where the sun's glare is in relation to my ball flight. No glare, I see the ball land. Maximum glare. I lose track of it quicker.

When I do lose it in the air, I usually can still find the ball in, or near my chosen landing area.

I was supposed to have had eye surgery a few weeks ago to help correct this. This virus thing had the doctor postpone the proceedure till August. For now, I am wearing a quality pair of "anti glare" glasses.

One good thing is that on a quiet round, I can still hear the ball hit the ground at 200+ yards. My ears still work pretty good. This also helps to zero in on those lost in flight balls.

I use yellow golf balls for better visability.

Take note of the line from where the shot originated to where you suspect it landed.  That way, when you are down range and searching, you can look back to determine whether you are left or right of the suspected line.

I agree, find a landmark that the ball was head at. Sometimes I need to use my rangefinder and shoot back towards the tee box to make sure I am in the right area.

For the last 50 days I've been hitting balls on a soccer field that only gets mowed every 20 days.  Imagine trying to find yellow balls (that look like yellow dandelions) and white balls (that look like white dandelion puffs)!

    • Nothing is assured and lots of talented young athletes in many sports fail to achieve greatness. as was said, injuries, growth, lots of things can come into play, And let’s let honest, over the years a few players have been branded “The Next Tiger Woods” and yet there is only 1 Tiger Woods. My initial point was if he can do a great breakout it may capture the attention of a new generation.  Back in the 70s it was Secretariat in horse racing, we also had Jordan in basketball and let’s not forget Tiger for golf.  Stories get people interested and I think golf needs a new story. I will pull for him and hope it works out but there are so many factors that come into play you just do not know, But I can hope.

    • Day 127 (19 Apr 24)  -  Played in the Friday Men's group today.  While I shoot 82, it was a pretty solid round with 10 pars, 5 bogies and 3 doubles.  I really hated the doubles - but each one was followed by a par come back, so "accepting" the number has really begun to pay off and not letting it get to me on the following hole in thinking "I have to get that stroke back".
