My mechanic is replacing battery and says he also needs to reset the computer, otherwise the ABS, power steering won't work. I said this doesn't make sense, I can reset the computer he said he needs to attach something to it to reset. I just got ripped off, didn't I? It's a Honda Accord.

Probably. It's probably pushing a button or something.

I’m playing pool with a very experienced automotive tech tonight. I’ll find out!

Having said that though, I’ve replaced dozens of batteries over the years and have never heard of anything like that.

I just talked to my buddy who is a senior tech at Audi.  He called a buddy who is a senior tech at Honda.

The Honda guy says, bullshit, your mechanic is a thief, and that you should do everything in your power to expose him as such!

Yup.

What does the invoice say? Does it say "reset computer" or does it say something about registering the battery, which is a real thing

Maybe look at this:

My old but trusty bag is filled with clubs I built...Integra SoooLong 450 10.5°, Jackaroo II 13* 16* 23*  hybrids, Dynacraft irons and wedges...plus a sweet Tad Moore Peach putter.

The only thing I ever did on battery changes on 2 accords was to enter the radio code so it would work again. Anti theft stuff

I very seldom fail to find the answer for something like that if I google it.

Normally I find a video that steps me through it.

I just replaced the power window actuator in our Escalade and the water level indicator in our washer.  A similar thing was when I disconnected the rear air shocks on the Escalade, to find out how to disable the warning.  I did that on our old Yukon, too.

I just google stuff, google-search the parts, and fix what's broken.  The answer to just about everything is a click away.

I do know that with the newer cars, most automotive shops will scan the computer and save the settings when replacing batteries because there is a chance that the computer can take a hit and your electronically controlled engine components can suffer. I have heard of trucks replacing the batteries and their throttle body sensors going haywire, abs going haywire, etc...  Not sure on the costs though

You can usually search Google (whatever search engine you prefer) and find how to do this on most cars.

You have one 12v /cigarette lighter in that car that stays hot even with car off. They make a little device that plugs in into the cig lighter that Power supply then u put a 9 volt batter on the other end of the plug/cable and that keeps all computers radio and etc memory in the car . I have been in the business 44 years now. Good luck
