I can do 4 days max. I am assuming it won't affect anyone else's plans.

Personally I'm leaning towards these options, but am open to what everyone else wants.  We probably want to try this during the week if were booking SV tee times 30 days out.

I am thinking we start golfing maybe on Monday the 19th or Tuesday the 20th.  Again, I am very open to discussion on all of this.

1. Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box $290

2. Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box $290

3. Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box $290

4. Sentry World ($155) or Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box ($290)

5. Lawsonia ($120) or Erin Hills($320) - If you would be doing this on the way out it would be recommended to maybe fly out of Milwaukee.

So, costs:

The 4 days of golf with Sentry world would be roughly $1025 for the golf.

All 4 days all at SV would be $1160

5 days with Lawsonia $1145.

5 days with Erin hills or Whistling to something else you would want to do...have fun and good on you for having limitless income. A word of advice for Whistling and Erin, Whistling requires a caddy i believe, so your probably looking at ($750) and Erin has so many blind shots that you likely need one.

If someone wants to just golf the first three days, that is an option too.  @Slim_Pivot I apologize I was a bit low maybe on my initial calculations.  I was originally thinking of 3-4 days instead of 4-5 days. I am all for as much golf as possible though.

Thanks, @cipher, this looks like you've already spent weeks planning.  I'm certainly good for the first four days, no matter how the final selection of courses works out.  I'll probably be happy to play Lawsonia Links on the way out if I have company for that.  Thanks again to both you and @iacas for everything you're doing.

That won't be an issue.  The biggest issue I think would just be basically booking and making sure we have 8 for the Sand Valley days.  As soon as I book it, they will run my CC for all players as well. That is what they required this the this year.  But that will be a month out from actual play.

Well I am stuck at home right now with nothing better to do than think about a mid summer trip back out there.

I am happy for any of this. I would lean towards Sand Valley on 3 days as opposed to all 4. I'm sure I'll love SV, but I also like to experience more than just those 2 courses on the trip. A thought if we do 3 days at SV: maybe we make a foursome at each course, so that people can play their favorite of the two again. That may not work out perfectly in the end, but it's an idea.

Question for you, though, Nate. Is it snowing where you are right now? I tend to get the golf bug and try to plan something like this when there's snow falling or on the ground. 🙂

I like that idea about the 3rd day.  I would be good playing either course the third day.  I wish they had the third course built, that would make this easier.  Someone else is also going to build one across the street I guess.

No snow here yet, but it should come soon. It usually doesn't stick until mid to late November.  I'll be over in the Winter Depression thread when it does.

This is what I would prefer at this point. If we start on Monday that gets us all the courses at weekday rates (though Lawsonia on a Friday might be weekend rates, but it's also relatively inexpensive).

I'm liking that about the third day too. And the thing is, we'll know which course might be "better" or preferred, and if it's like 6-2, we can just get eight times on that course again. I haven't really started looking at it enough to know if one or the other is something I'd likely prefer more.

Yeah I think that is a good plan.  I can also book Lawsonia tee times way in advance it looks like.

I probably won't mind either way myself.

The big difference for everyone wondering is concave vs convex.  For SV the land slopes away from the fairway center in many places, and Mammoth the land slope towards the fairway centers.

Also, The Sandbox(note that one of the holes it just a putt)

Here are the yardages for the sand box.  Might be fun to do some sort of challenge here @iacas.  I'll probably only take my 9i, GW, SW, and a putter.

Move me to virtually certain. The wife has a Dallas trip in late July-early August so I’m good to go. And I’m pretty open for whatever days everyone agrees on. I’ll just need to know confirmed dates by the end of the year so I can take vacation.

Also, for anyone around my area that is driving and wants to carpool, hit me up. It’s a good drive but if I have to do it alone, I’ll likely fly which means the push cart will stay home.

I can do the 4 days of the trip.

I wont be able to do any days on the way out if that makes sense.

I'll fail spectacularly to be clear about this… we're probably going to need to have a drawing or something if we end up with more than 8 "virtually certain" people, which we almost certainly will. I'm uncomfortable with who goes being a matter of who can say "dibs" first only. So, let's keep adding names to the "first" list even if it exceeds 8, and @cipher and I will figure out what to do later on.

So… I'm changing up the wording a little bit.

Committed to be considered:

Lol it’s no big deal to me. I like golf trips and I get to go on my fair share.

Leave me out if you have too many ppl, count me in if you need me

Just let me know by Feb so I can put in for the vacation days or not

You're in.

We might expand the list to 12, with a drawing or a pick (it's Nate's house after all) and the other four could get cheap hotels minutes away, but just use them to sleep while still visiting/hanging out at the lake house.

I actually don't expect we'll be at the lake house recreating much. Is that the word for doing recreational activities? Anyway, given the 80-minute drive, I think we'll wake up, go, play, return, sleep.

I'm in this category as well. We take golf trips pretty frequently and I'd be taking away from my Christmas vacation time to go on this one, but I am good either way. I'll give it some time to see how many end up being interested and I'll drop out for someone that never takes trips but still want to stay in my position on the list as of today.

    • One thing I've noticed with Mini Drivers is that the manufacturers seem like they keep their quantities somewhat limited.  The last two TaylorMade Mini's and the Callaway AI Smoke Mini were sold out quickly.
    • Huh? That's the niche of these mini-drivers. They can still work off the tee and off the fairway. They're designed for and work for both things, which is all that blurb says. You can see from the photos that it's a bit of a deeper face, which I find is more important off the tee than the fairway.
    • This statement doesn't make much sense to me.  So, I think the push and pull between a 3-wood meant for off the turf versus off the tee is how tall the face is on the 3-wood. I do not get how this mini driver would be good off the turf, or at least get the height needed to stop the ball as a normal 3-wood meant for off the ground. Maybe they care more about hitting the 3-wood off the tee versus off the turf. Nearly every strike would be low on the clubface relative to the CG location.  I would take that statement as more as marketing over what you would actually expect the club to perform.
    • No, not that Minnie Driver. This one: It's a mini driver from Titleist, available for Tour validation/testing starting this week at Kapalua. It's available in righty and lefty and is only in 13° models for now. GT280 is a direct result of Titleist’s collaboration with PGA TOUR players on the development and testing of the TSR 2W prototype, which debuted on TOUR at last year’s PLAYERS Championship. With many players seeking an additional option at the top end of their setup, Titleist tour reps and R&D engineers worked with players such as Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris to dial in a 13-degree head that worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck. Now on Tour: New Titleist GT280 The arrival of the 2025 PGA TOUR season this week in Maui brings with it an addition to Titleist’s breakthrough line of GT metalwoods: the new Titleist GT280.
