If you're interested in being a moderator, please share the reasons why here, as we'll look to add 1-3 moderators over the next few weeks.

Duties and obligations and perks:

  • Check in on the forum regularly.
  • Participate in the staff "Slack" group.
  • Manage some posting on the forum (typically this involves merging posts into existing topics).
  • Occasionally we have to hand out a warning. This isn't done if you're participating in the topic - other moderators make their own decision in such cases.
  • Access to review stuff, and the soft expectation that you'll occasionally review some things.

Ideally, you already visit the site pretty frequently, and really, we need to moderate so infrequently this isn't a big-time thing. Most people here are good people, and we all have a passion for the game of golf in common. Plus, regardless of which moderator does anything, including our dedicated moderator @The Committee, I get the blame for it. 🙂 So you'll be fine!

I would like to also thank the guys we recently removed from the moderator list for their many years of service. We wouldn't be where we are without them. Thank you!

I would be interested in being a moderator. I frequent the site pretty much every day, but it's mostly reading topics. I'd like to become more involved and get to know everyone better. The site has given me so much information and opportunities to meet up for play (even though I have yet to make one of those opportunities) that I'd really like to give back in some form or fashion other than being a supporter.

Okay. You'd be good, I think. We'll talk soon - I want to see if there are a few others so we can have one conversation instead of two or three staggered similar conversations. 😄

I love this site and I’ve gotten to know a good handful of the members here, and I visit the site several times a day. I love the game of golf, and I think I would be good as a moderator.

I'm willing and interested as well.  I'll be transitioning into retirement over the next year or less, and will have more time available if needed.  I've enjoyed my time here from the first, and really value the effort you and the mods put into it.

There are some really good candidates here. I'm very glad I'm not the one having to make the decision!

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
