Do you guys watch or like any YouTube instructions channel? I’m as a newbie follow a few that think help me learned. It might not better than lesson but for now it will do. I plan to take specific lesson though like griping and swing path.

I watch a lot from Danny Maude and Mike Breed.

No.

At best you’re going to get conflicting advice that may or may not work with other things you’re trying to do in your swing.

There used to be a joke about the instructional articles in Golf Digest.  It might still be there, I haven't subscribed in years.  Anyway, every odd-numbered month, the lesson would be "fix your slice," but what they wouldn't tell you is that it'd cost you 10 yards.  In even numbered months, they'd tell you how to gain 10 yards on your tee shot, but not tell you that it'd cause you to slice.

YouTube instruction is a bit like that.  You'll get conflicting information that may or may not cancel out.  Find someone reputable and get lessons for you not for some generic you.

If you need someone online to give you something to work on, and don't feel like spending the money for something quality like Evolvr (hey, money was tight when I took up golf, I understand), at least make a "My Swing" thread and try what ends up being suggested for you.  The first time I did this, I was shocked at how someone could watch a few swings on video and give me good advice of what to practice that resulted in some improvement.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with watching YouTube golf instruction videos, if and only if you stick to one or two instructors. I personally like Matt Fisher and Danny Maude myself.

Funny story: I played golf with three guys I haven’t seen in person since about 2003 today. Anyway one of the guys I played with, reminded me of a video I watched on posture recently, with Danny Maude. Me as a low single figure handicap my arms look like / at address down the line. You want them like | or \ slightly on the latter. My posture sucks… and I shot 1 under on the back today.

The videos can be interesting and instructive, but they can also pull you away from what is best for you to work on to improve. You can think of them as quick fixes and it can actually hurt your progress. Best advice is to work with a good instructor and practice smart to improve.

Every YouTube video should start with a 10- to 45-minute diagnosis to make sure the video you're about to watch applies to you.

There are a LOT of reasons why someone hits a slice. YouTube videos do not start with a 45-minute "disclaimer" because nobody would get through it. They just want to stop slicing, but if the video shows a fix for something that the student doesn't do, the video is less than worthless — it may actually cause more damage.

Don't watch YouTube videos unless they're just working on some fundamental things, or you're very confident that what they're going to show you actually applies to you.

I found on YouTube and they are now on the Golf Channel a series called Me and My Golf. As Iacas said and why I watch them occasionally is for some basic fundamentals. They do have guests on their show, Rory McIIroy has been on the show a time or two.

Piers Ward and Andy Proudman are the Host Instrctors.  They do a decent job. They do analyze videos from people who send a video in from time to time.  I find them to be better than Martin Hall and Blair O’Neal.

It’s best to see a local PGA instructor in my opinion.

I would presume this would apply but..I used to be a horrendous chipper. That 10 yard chip might leave me an 8 yard chip or a 30 yard chip and once in a blue moon might be on the green...then I stumbled across Phil Mickelson's short game video, watched it, worked at it, watched it, worked at it, rinse, repeat multiple times, and now feel like a reasonable chipper. I am not confused into thinking I am "good" but I reliably am on the green, will be in one-putt range anywhere from no to 4 or 5 times a round depending on the day, distance, and lies I had to work on and it feels like I chip one in every 8 to 10 rounds.

But that feels like the exception...his approach is VERY fundamental and it definitely applied to me...my lessons were all full swing, it was a glaring weakness in my game that now feels like a strength...but if I understand your comment correctly, you are saying this is the one time to pay attention to those type videos?

I would suggest this as well, several years ago I was taking lessons from a PGA  ertified Instructor and I was struggling to comprehend what he was saying I was doing on my downswing. Essentially I was doing something similar to what Jim Furyk does with his swing.  I couldn’t feel what I was doing.  So he set up the camera had me swing several times and we went in and I watched what I was doing. Had a sudden epiphany after seeing my downswing and it went away instantly.

You can’t get that from watching a YouTube video.

😁 but I did shank one the other day in a tournament to get a bogey. Still shot a 72!
Golf is hard, take the good with the bad, but learn to score, not just hit a ball.

Some instructors are posting clips from lessons, before after, the fix, why the fix. Not all include the why part though. They're more on Instagram though and some will only exist for a brief moment in Stories.

I find looking at swings of all different players on Instagram informative.

    • Yeah.  As far as remaining still, I was thinking body rotates around the spine like an axis.  Instead of pivoting, some like me, sway, come off that axis, leave weight on back foot, etc.
    • I apologize on behalf of… idiot men. Sorry about that. Next time, tell the guy to shut up. 😛  Day 553, May 8, 2024 18 holes from the whites with @rwolfe. Windy AF today, but hit some good shots. Slid back a little from where I was the previous two days, but… I can get it back. Made a pretty nifty birdie on 12 from some pretty odd places. 😄
    • The angles look fine. Get as much light as you can on the area — you want the highest shutter speed you can get. Less blur.
    • Snap @ Tour Spoon! Birdied 11 yesterday. Hit a poor iron ,stopped on edge of bunker , pitch with my lob wedge landed about 6’ away and went in. Only 12 & 14 to go, long par5’s into the prevailing wind. Might be waiting a while although I did have about 15’ on 12 after the birdie on 11, didn’t miss by much.
    • Tested the Maxfli TourS yesterday. Compared to my former ball, the Titleist AVX, I got an extra 10 yards off the driver and half a club (5-7 yards) off the irons. The combined extra yardage from the driver and fairway wood meant that on par-5s where I usually hit an 8-iron third shot, I hit a PW. It's just a smidgen softer than the AVX and seems to spin well. Some of the reviews indicated a low ball flight, but I did not notice it. I also did not observe any problems with the paint quality, which was an issue with previous Maxfli models up to and including the U series.  My previous round I tested the Bridgestone E6, a two-piece ball with a different cover. It was OK; the same distance and feel as the AVX but with less spin.
