Bad take after bad take. You’re on a roll.

Yeah yeah but hey it gets better lol

USA have won 3 of the past 12 !!!!!

25% when I went to school, but you’ve conveniently forgot about that. Europe let you win so you keep coming back lol…

“I see players come to a tournament and say: ‘Oh, this golf course doesn’t fit my game.’ Hello! The golf course isn’t supposed to fit your game, you’re supposed to fit your game to the golf course. You always have to fit your game to the golf course, so that’s the fun of it, learning how to do that.” J. Nicklaus

That has quite a different meaning to "your game needs to suit all different course setups."

Yeah sorry your right but my point was Jack didn’t make the course the reason he didn’t win, my memory is abit off after a month in a coma. I’m trying to setup a new laptop and it’s not happening, I’ve had to admit defeat and get some help. My bad…

Man, get well soon (seriously). This is just chit-chat about golf, or, to be precise, a level of golf most of we mere mortals can only watch in awe before heading out and skinning one over the green. The best of luck with your recovery. And I'm sorry for being snippy.

So, nah, I think his driving and approach play have tailed off. He can't hit wedges very well, either.

I stand corrected. I will however, stand by the fact that he's not nearly as far gone as someone like Fowler. This year was clearly a drop on the stats front, but he still finished respectably on the money list. I'm not ready to assign him to the trash heap yet.

YES!

Just as those are the things that let him win before.

Completely OT, but I'm curious how Rory's recent fall in the rankings compares with others who've fallen hard from the top  - not because of physical injury (I'm making an assumption that injury is not Rory's issue). People like Jordan (who's rebounded) and Duval. Do they collapse in one area (e.g. putting) or many areas? Is there any pattern? My guess is that there isn't a pattern, and that it's such a hard game that any golf "skill" that degrades can cause a precipitous drop in results.

I doubt Rory’s best days are past him. New baby ,priorities may be a bit different right now. His interview after the cup tells me he is going to come out firing this season. The fire may have been lit inside. Seems like a genuine person and is easy to root for. Just not every 2 years vs team USA.

Yeah I actually drool over some shots I've seen but I've seen some by reportedly the best driver of a golf ball that's worse than 1-5 of mine, mind you I'm not playing for millions of $$$$$$$ lol... health wise I'm about as good as I'm going to get, mate your welcome to be as snippy as you want I've not lost my sense of humor lol it's all good fun...

I try to imagine what I'd be doing with all the Money and adulation that goes with what he's done and doing, PARTY time. I have friend who played the Aussie Pro circuit and even at that level he struggled to stay focused on golf with all the girls booze etc, so I think Rory and Co are doing a fantastic job. This result was long overdue for USA. They won 25% ...

Rory's like a +7 handicap driving the ball, and a routine 2 handicap around the green.  Or so.   That won't win you tournaments.

That's not really close to being true.

His SG: ATG for 2021 ranks him better than the average PGA tour player, and better than a number of very good tour players including guys like Xander, Kisner, Morikawa, Sergio, Brooks, Berger, Hovland, Bryson, Homa, etc.

Are you honestly going to say that all of those guys, who were objectively worse than Rory around the green in the 2021 season, have short games worse than a 2 handicap? Or even a scratch golfer?

Okay, let's make him a +2 level SG:ATG.  He's still not winning tournaments.  Great guy... I like him.  Hope he makes a comeback.  But anytime you're talking about comebacks it usually means career almost over.  He ain't the bushy-haired Rory anymore.  Or even the Congressional Rory...

So? You're talking about how Poulter is a great ball striker, and when you're shown to be full of it on that, you pivot to Europe "letting [me] win"? I didn't play, and Europe didn't let anyone win.

I didn't mention Fowler, and Fowler was never anywhere near as good as Rory.

He's lost almost a shot a round from his driving and his approach shot play. That's four shots a tournament. It's no mystery why he's not winning.

I don't quite know how strokes gained OTT is measured and calculated across years, but is it possible that over the years more guys have gotten better at driving it far and straight(ish), so relative to his peers Rory isn't as skilled as he used to be, even though Rory's actual driving skill might have remained relatively unchanged?

Or do you think Rory's actual skill of driving the ball has decreased?

Or maybe some of both? Or am I completely off?

His skill has decreased, yes. Absolutely. He's talked about it. And others have gotten a bit better, sure, but not even half as much as that.

Did you catch the part where he said "I never really cried or got emotional over what I've done as an individual. I couldn't give a s***..."? Doesn't sound like a guy that is going to come out firing.

Lol. I honestly wasn't thinking straight when I wrote it. The idea of a new player from KFT or ET coming into the mix wasn't in my head. I was looking at the current OWGR and top 100 and looking at who I think could get to top 21 and all of the options looked American. It was a silly mistake.

Euro players had last-minute issues with which specific Titleist ball they were using, apparently:

Quote

However, Telegraph Sport has learnt Harrington’s best-laid plans were ultimately forced to be ripped up on the Wednesday, the penultimate day of official practice, when it was discovered that Lee Westwood and Paul Casey played different balls and, so too, did Matt Fitzpatrick and Viktor Hovland. Harrington felt obliged to make a hasty switch in the quartet of duos he named 24 hours later, with Westwood partnering Fitzpatrick and Casey teaming up with Hovland. Both partnerships lost.

Hovland and Casey did not appear together again, but Westwood and Fitzpatrick also went out in the Saturday foursomes, which they again lost.

“Maybe they should have thought about the ball issue earlier, as it is always part of the equation of putting two players together in a foursomes,” an insider said. “But all four play Titleist and you might have thought it would be fine. Yet there are different sorts of Titleist balls.”

Very interesting @iacas thanks for sharing. Now had that been the USA I feel this would have come out night after issue.

They really didn't get that there's a difference between Pro V1 and Pro V1x earlier? That seems really strange. Aren't there differences between some Pro V1 models, though? Like left arrow or right arrow or something like that? I would get confusing that, but confusing V1 and V1x seems really amateurish.
