My sister-in-law bought two bags of golf clubs for some reason. One was a woman's set she actually thinks she'll try to use. The other bag was some ancient men's clubs with an old Ping Anser putter with one of those fat grips. I can't remember if it was the original, two or three, but maybe she'll let me mess around with it on the course if we get another decent day.

I currently roll with a Ping Sigma G Tyne H. It replaced a Callaway Two Ball that was  15 years old. The Ping was the first putter I tried out that rested better than the 2 ball. I’ll not be changing again any time soon

I use a Ping Redwood Anser and a Tyne 4.  I prefer the look of the Anser but the balance of the Tyne.  There is currently a battle for the top spot.

My favorite Ping putter was the Nome 355 adjustable. Nice and heavy with a smooth feel.

I had a Redwood and gave it to my son. He still plays it.

I have a friend who swears by his Nome.

Every model is either face-balanced for a straight stroke, mid-hang for a slight arc, or toe down for a strong arc. I play Ping Heppler Tyne 3 Putter.

What’s weird to me is how Ping claims the Tyne 4 that I have to be strong Arc yet it has the same toe hang the Anser.

The TM Spider Tour doesn’t claim any particular arc but it is the same as the Tyne and a lot of people love it

I play with a Ping Anser 3 , it is brass I believe. Came out in 1981.

I liked it better than any of the mallet style putters I tried, I have a wristy pop kind of putting stroke so it works for me.

I currently have two Ping Heppler Putters, the Tyne 3 and the Tomcat 14.  Both are fantastic putters, and have the adjustable length shafts for adjustability.

My first putter was an Anser 3 that was in the bag that the guy who introduced the game to me picked up at a garage sale and gave me. I now play with an Anser-style Edel.

I have a Ping Karsten Anser 2 that sits in the corner.   Many years ago I was fitted for it by a guy that used the Ping mobile app from his phone!   It has 0° loft.   Maybe that's why it sits in the corner.

I’ve used the mobile app and it was dead on.  Zero loft is odd…

Another interesting is it from Ping… according to their fitting guide, if you use a Pistol grip on your putter it can turn a putter for “straight back, straight through” to one that is “slight arc.”

My Edel has 1° of loft.

Scottsdale TR Anser 2. Pretty sure it's defective, sometimes right, sometimes left, and then it leaves 'em short too.

    • I agree.  I once played an inter club match, before the change,  and one of our opponents used a small flat seashell for a marker.  At some point, my partner picks up that shell, thinking it was just a small piece of debris.  An argument ensued, and to be honest I don't remember the result.  But requiring an artificial marker eliminates that kind of misunderstanding.
    • I think it's just to provide clarity. If you marked your ball with a pebble or a small twig, that's a loose impediment, and someone else could move it. An "obstruction" or a man-made thing, or an artificial thing, isn't a loose impediment.
    • Day 243 (2 Jan 25) - Grandson directed drills today - he wanted to hit easy pitches into the holes of the Martin bird house (had it at ground level) - it is doable but it calls for a perfectly executed shot.  He came close a couple of times.  For me it’s about distance control and such.  Drill two - me hit same foam balls to him while he’s in the swing saucer - into a slight wind…now it’s distance control plus anticipating the wind.  A fun exercise - got really close on a number of shots.  Drill three - take his youth Cobra SW and hit flops into to the foam ball basket while he was holding it. Great eye-hand work for him - wedge control for me.  That little wedge  works well.  By the end my junior coach was done and I was too….
    • Going to give this a try for a while and see if it sticks.  Day 1 Today was some full practice: 30 minutes of range work focused on coordinating weight transfer based on Evolvr feedback 10 minutes putting speed control work 10 minutes chipping practice with random targets 5 minutes bump and run work with 7 iron
    • Day 23: 1/2/2025 Had a great range session today. It was downright frigid this morning at the range, but the overhead heater made it tolerable. I started off working on my PPJ swing thought. Some slower, swings, somewhat exaggerating the movements. Then I switched focus and just hit the 6-iron about a half dozen times without thinking. I filmed two of these swings to send to Yoda.  After that, I worked my way up and down the bag (random practice... yay.) Hitting one shot with each club aiming at a specific target. I tried to focus on where and not how. Over all, I was pretty impressed with my results.  If you categorize each shot as either good, bad or good enough. I would say nearly all of them were either in the good or good enough category. Again, yay.  I'm going to do some more mirror work tonight, looking at my videos I think I can still improve what I'm doing. But over all, I was really happy with today's range session. I feel like I've had a giant leap forward in my swing. We shall see if the progress can continue.  Yay.
