If you're in some situations like S_A_E, there are a lot of combos and letters:

STARE
SNARE
SPATE
SWALE
SLATE
STALE
SHAVE

But… I'd freak out too, and don't blame a guy. But it's not ballsy; it's the opposite. It's smart if you want to avoid the X.

Hmm. I see what you are saying but, I would most probably freak out and not venture out too far from the construct thus far (four deep) and do what he did on the fifth try. Only on second or third try.

When I get to a point like that, I will sit down and write all the words I think it could be. That one, I had 5 possibilities, and I didn't think of 2 others that were valid. So I had 7 words and 2 guesses left. I actually got lucky in the end because I had viper and piper left as words. I hadn't thought of viper, so I just went with piper and got lucky!

      First - glad to see these popping up again. Now to the topic at hand - I would rather be option 1.  If I know how far it's going (I mean a yard or two) I can always play to the wider parts of the fairway and/or the green and still do reasonably well.  Now if I could just really hit the "number" that well.

      Day 2 (10 Mar 25) - Long day of driving to dr appt with son.  Thankfully got in one of my fave putting drills (two ball side by side) - the goal to have both balls come off the putter face equally by having them come off the putter face as close to the same time as possible.  First few rolls - the toe was leading the way as that ball flew off the face.  By the end of the drill both balls were basically equal off the face, rolling to within a couple of inches of each other.  Nice drill of focusing on squaring the face.  BTW - I was using the old Odyssey DF992.

      Day 161 - 2025-03-10 Got a decent, long session in. Focused mostly on the backswing feels, and moved on toward the end of the four hours (not all hitting balls, I installed a motion sensing light switch in there too, and worked with a student over FaceTime for a bit) on the downswing feel.
