The Leaderboard call is "Average Driving Distance" and "Driving Accuracy" so I believe it is only the driver

The reason I am wondering about driving distance vs driver distance is on my stats dashboard, under tee shots, my driving average for my last round (18 holes) is shown as 259 yards, while under clubs, my driver average is 278 yards. So that makes me think "driving" refers to any tee shot that is not a par-3, and not just shots with driver. I agree it is confusing, and odd for a leaderboard. On most rounds on my home course, I am usually only hitting driver 3-4 times.

I just emailed them and asked.  No need for us to keep speculating, assuming and guessing when we can ask for the real answer.  I'll post it once I hear back.

It’s all tee shots on non par 3 holes. I mentioned this in a previous post. I think it’s defined somewhere, too.

My average driver distance is 11 yards longer than my average driving distance because I hit clubs other than driver on a few holes per round.

Just got the pro lx + because I needed a range finder and figured I would try the H4 as well, as I have been doing a lot of my stats by hand and entering them in to get SG and it is getting tiring and time consuming. Two questions:

For the tags I screwed them into my Golf Pride Tour velvet grips but due to the bow of the rubber at the end of the grip it doesn't seem to be sitting completely flush- is this where the Gorilla Glue Sealant helps secure it and fill this gap? They also seem more prominent than I was expecting (even though I know they are thinner than most) does that bother people or do you get used to it?

I have a super stroke but do not have a counter weight, any recommendations? Use the adhesive tape as someone suggested?

Thanks for the help

A little late posting but per SS Support, driving distance on leaderboards is all tee shots except Psr 3. I stand corrected.  Below is the full response.

Hi Stuart,

It is all clubs on all tee shots apart from par 3's. This is how the stat works on the PGA tour I believe.

Kind regards,

Thought I would give my two cents. Former Arccos user - including with the wearable hip tracker, which helped pick up a lot more shots than the watch or cell phone alone.

I find the H4 to be very easy to start up and play - app not needed during rounds is so helpful! Frees up your watch and phone, and makes less interactions needed so less room for errors to occur. Post rounds it sometimes takes a minute to sync but not bad. Battery life good enough for a round - and stays well charged between rounds too. use, excellent att tracking shots including putts, and easily becomes part of the pre-shot routine.  Quite easy after first couple times to edit rounds (expect I have found adding penalty shots a little tricky) And addition I find the stats to be very useful. It is cheap and I think very useful for any golf or looking to get into their advance metrics, and review their previous rounds.

@StuM could you forward them a link to this very recent discussion? 🙂

Below is a reply I got from SS regarding counting 9 hole rounds stats on leaderboard and also giving them the link to this thread.

I never even considered “cheating the stats” and just track all shots, good & bad. Also, an average is over time, not just any 1 round and the more data points the more accurate the average. I can see not counting less than 9 holes. As for counting 18, weather may prematurely end a round, does that mean you’d shots should not count?

Last paragraph is a question we may all want to email them on.  I definitely prefer  TST due to familiarity with members but a forum of many more SS users may be good in addition to TST.

I am going to encourage them to participate in our thread for now.

Hi Stuart,

I've passed the information including the link onto the Product owner, I'm glad there is debate over the product and you have given us feedback. This is just my opinion (doesn't mean its correct) that with a long drive the skill is in just hitting that one big isolated shot but an average should be a skill of consistency on the same day in the same conditions, much like your handicap. When playing for handicap it should be a full round not just an average of your scores across holes played on different days. 3 over for 3 holes one day and then 5 over for 8 holes the day after, you could have the same justification that when playing for handicap it doesn't matter if its on different days and not a full round but I personally think it should be a full round on the same day. If we were getting really technical the leaderboards are a competition so if you wanted to make sure you win the average driving distance or accuracy etc, if you were playing poorly you would stop recording the round and wait until you had a lesson or only record holes that were down wind or have wide fairways etc. Yes you can do this for the long drive but it doesn't matter as its just about how far you can hit one shot not how you consistently hit shots throughout a round. Again just an opinion there isn't a correct answer here as stats only existed until now on golf tours and they are of course always full rounds.

If we were to have our own community forums housed on our support website would you be interested in that or would you always prefer to use the sand trap website out of interest?

Kind regards,

Jamie

The USGA counts nine-hole rounds in your handicap. Heck, they count seven-hole rounds.

No, they shouldn't count 3-hole "rounds" but nine is not unfamiliar. Hell, some people play mostly nine-hole courses.

Oy. If they did that, it should just be about tech support, basically. Users helping other users to decrease their support burden.

As well as a way for them to hear a bit more directly about new ideas or wants.

I can’t see people trying to game the system like that.  I have only one 18-hole round on SS but seven 9-hole rounds thus they are only including @ 23% of my shots in averages.  I am sure that is skewing it one way or another.

Yeah, I highly doubt anyone out there at all is trying to "game" the ShotScope "leaderboards."

Yeah, kind of silly for SS to differentiate between 9 and 18 hole rounds in the name of preventing people from cheating the online leaderboards, considering:

  • If I play a single hole, after I sync with my phone, I think I can manually add shots for the 17 remaining holes to make a full 18 hole round, and I could make every drive 350 yards, or every approach inside 10 feet, etc., thus gaming the system.
  • In the post-round editing, I can manually edit my shots to "game" the statistics and leaderboards however I want also.

I agree they should count 9 hole rounds. People don't always have time to play 18 and if you are using this for stats for your own improvement then the more data points the better. The logic from support about not including them makes no sense to me.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
