Hi, All!

I'm a bit of a hack, play too much golf, and when conditions require it, i play in the rain.  i often carry my bag (assuming a walkable course) but often in a cart also.  Finally i've got enough gloves and a towels in the bag, but do you all have any recommendations on a good golf rain jacket that's not exorbitantly priced?  Obviously this isn't an inexpensive sport, but when i look at these recommended rain jacket costs, it's insane (see link below).  Do you have any ideas on a closer to $100 rain jacket?  also, recommended "universal" bag cover?  Seem to have misplaced my orginal one.  Also, any other recommended gear for playing in the rain? THANKS!

Bring on the rain.  Are you a fair-weather golfer? Then this article isn’t for you.  This golf rain gear buyer’s guide is for the grinders, the golfers who...

I have a Zero Restriction jacket that was exorbitantly priced, but it works great so I feel like it was a worthwhile purchase. I did get a 30% off code from a podcast that helped (I think it was shotgun start/the fried egg as they are/were sponsored by ZR). I don't wear rain pants in the rain because my True Linkswear golf pants are pretty good at shedding water from light rain, and with a big golf umbrella my pants don't get wet enough to bother me.

Look for ANY waterproof activewear that DOESN'T have a particular sport associated with it. That $250 FootJoy (or whatever) "Rain Gear" equivalent can probably be found for less than that including pants.

As an Example, Frogg Toggs has gear that can do the same job for a LOT less than that Galvin Green listed. There are a few others that when you lose the association with 'Golf', price drops alarmingly.

Here's what I do when I play in the rain.

I GET WET!

bishop-priest.gif.29371a5bb42302ce33aff235e6f64357.gif

I used to keep a pair of non-slip rain golf gloves in my bag. But I find with the Pure Grip DTX Midsize grips I don't need them. I just go gloveless, because a soggy glove can be gross. I also do have a rain hood for my golf bag that I will occasionally use.

If you lost yours, you may want to try one like this:

No rain jacket, no rain gear for me. Just a bucket hat, or a ball cap.

Although I think Bill Murray's hat in this photo is hilarious.

I wouldn't use it.

Instead, I just get wet. After all, I'm not made from sugar. I'm not going to melt.

If it's cold and rainy I will wear an Under Armour long sleeve thermal shirt under my golf shirt. And I may even get crazy and wear a vest over my golf shirt but that's it.

I do like to keep a pair of socks in the trunk of my car. Just in case it's rainy enough that my feet get wet. I find that the drive home is more pleasurable with fresh socks.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

I have rain gloves and Mizuno/Galway Bay rain gear and a rain cover for my bag. But in the summer, it’s almost useless for me to wear the rain gear because I will sweat and get soaked anyway. I do have rain shorts to at least keep my wallet dry. And I do have a big umbrella.

Rain shorts? Going to need a link to those. I swear I've thought before why doesn't someone make rain shorts. LOL

I don’t care if my hairy legs get wet in the summer. 😜 Galway Bay doesn’t make them anymore.

$110.00 bucks. I don't mind spending a dollar or two but that doesn't seem like a deal. I can see the old twig and berries getting a little steamy in those. On the other hand, I kind of like them. Do you wear them over your regular shorts or do you wear them as regular shorts? Some of the reviews say they are really big.

In the summer using rain gear is useless. You end up sweating so much it isn’t worth it. Now fall weather and a bit of rain. I use linksoul rain pants and either a rain proof vest or full on Sun Mountain rain jacket.

    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
