What Would You Change If You Were Commissioner for a Day?

Recommended Posts

Rahmbo said he would add a Porta-Potty at every hole. What would you do? Here are the guidelines. Your change would be permanent, and would not need some sort of approval from anyone. Just a stroke of the pen. Oh, and it can be more than one thing.

I would ban jogger pants.

4 hour time limit per round. If you don’t finish in the allotted time in normal weather conditions, you add a stroke for every 5 minutes over.

Tell the Saudi’s to pound sand and return to how the Tour was set-up at the beginning of the year. If the Tour goes down in flames, at least we would go down fighting.

I would ban anyone other than the golfer & his caddy indicating where a ball landed.  You go in the 8” rough, you have 3 minutes to find it or tough luck. That r we pile j crease the importance of accuracy.  The hard part would be controlling the fans.

How would you define jogger pants? What about slim fitting pants?

If this is the rule then I say guys should get to play through slower groups too. Ain't no way I'm taking penalty strokes simply because I'm paired with Cantlay.

If I was commissioner for a day one thing I think would be cool would be that everyone plays the same ball. Golf is one of the only sports I can think of involving a ball where the player gets to dictate what ball is used and can use a ball that performs differently than the ball their opponent(s) use.

A golf ball isn't shared equipment in golf. Baseball players get to use their own bats and gloves. Tennis players get to use their own rackets. Football players get their own gloves and helmets. Hockey players get their own sticks. Pool/Billiards players get their own cues.

Bowlers, conversely, get to use their own bowling balls.

Because they're not shared equipment. They use the same lane(s). Not the same balls.

Photo defines my definition of joggers. Slim fitting is OK as long as its tasteful.  We don't need 80's hair metal tightness. Does not apply to LPGA players, but I'm the PGAT commish so I have no control over that.

Let the guys wear shorts

get rid of the "ball finding marshals"

have a tiered rough length, first cut would be 1 1/2 inches deep and is 2 yards wide, 2nd cut would be 3 inches deep and 2 yards wide, and 3rd cut would be the rest of the rough and would be at least 6 inches deep

Also all the players would be mic'd up with their caddies so we can hear what they are saying

It is what it is

Since the USGA will not budge, I would make it a PGA Tour local rule in tournaments that you can move the ball out of a divot in your fairway. Free drop. Your playing partner has to agree that it is a divot because, otherwise, they would have ball in hand at every opportunity.

Love  it. Way too often [;ayers  intentionally hit it  in the grandstand to get a  favorable drop

3 changes

1-No lift  clean and cheat. Once wet  conditions are declared give the  player the  option of  1 ball drop within a  club length radius. No second drop if the  balls ends  up an inch closer to the hole. no placing, no tee-up

2-If you hit the  ball in the rough and you  get to take a free drop for  some reason the  ball MUST be dropped  in the rough and  no more finessing the rules to get  out  of the rough.

3-Match play for the fedex  cup

Same dumb schtick since joining.

So you hate the guy you play with, nothing is a divot hole. You like the guy, everything is a divot hole. Terrible idea.

No thanks. Sometimes the rules don't help, sometimes they do. The rough, the fairway… it's all part of the general area. You're dropping in the same area of the course.

I like the rule where everyone uses the same ball. I think it would be cool to have a tournament where everyone uses all the same clubs. You show up, and have a finite amount of time with your clubs on the range to figure them out, then play. I don’t care if it’s not fair to everyone, golf ain’t fair.

Also, I would like to see them make the driver heads smaller, about the same as fairway woods. No more unlimited forgiveness so you can hit it 315 off the end of the toe.

Definitely a penalty for slow play.  And it can't be financial, has to be penalty strokes.  That will get their attention and get them moving a little faster

How is that meaningfully different from LCP?  Only differences I see are "Drop" vs "Place" and "Radius" allowing for the ball to be closer to the hole (isn't that worse than LCP?).  As for "no tee-up" LCP is pretty much limited to the fairway, ie "Closely mown areas", and the courses used for various Pro events usually have immaculate fairways that you are not going to find much of a way to "tee-up" a ball.  Even if on the fringe of a green they are pretty uniform without much way to "tee-up" a ball.  Now, on some goat track covered in ant hills and clumby grasss/weeds maybe the "tee-up" is an issue.
