I am really thinking about getting a 4 wood for versatility off the tee, was hoping a good one would go on sale soon.

I have no need for one. My 3 wood is good for 225-260 depending on how I play it, and my 2i hybrid is good for 205-220, so I really don't have a gap there.

I don't have a 3 wood either, just driver to 4i. So I have a decent sized distance gap. *done with off topic stuff, my bad*

Every time I look at a thread like this I think to myself, "self a lot of people on this site seem to have 110-115 MPH swing speed".

Looking at these yardages makes me wonder if a lot of you guys say man that shot must have been playing longer than the yardage said a lot on the course.

Actually, I look at my gps app on my phone because I don't trust the markings anymore. I learned my lesson about assuming markings are correct. That being said I've pulled my 9i for a 155 yd center green shot *via gps* and flew it to back edge with a bounce off. I've no clue what my actual swing speed is, but hoping that they'll have a way to measure it at the outing this weekend.

Yeah! I think the yard markers on my course cannot be trusted, I also tried a phone GPS and one of them is way out! Sometimes up to 25 yards! ....I discovered as i watched my ball land past a green and bounce into the horizon!

Golly Gee, I would not carry a driver if I could hit a 3W like that.

These are carry distances. The PW, GW, SW have added swing weight.

It seems the lower handicappers have much greater distance.  Probably consistent distance as well.  My game has improved this summer (24 to 12) as my distance has improved.

Driver --  250-275max

3W --  220-245 max

3h -- 200-210

3i -- never use it, except for low punch out of trees

4i -- 200-210, use hybrid instead

5i -- 190

6i -- never use it, mental block, choke down on 5

7i -- 160-170

8i -- 145-155

9i -- 130-140

PW -- 120-135, no control

56 -- 100

60 -- 65

I can only give a range because I don't consistently hit a certain distance.  Try to control distance gaps with choking down and shorter swings with limited success.

Nothing against the higher-handicappers who play the muni courses, but they probably aren't seeing yardages on the course that are very accurate.   I don't have/use a range-finder though, because I just try to focus on enjoying the game, and part of the "challenge" if you will,  is determining what club to play from whatever position/lie/elevation etc. I am, using whatever the course lists the yardage as, or what my eyes tell me the distance is.

I agree with this and have the same trouble on my course.  The other day I was inside the 150 marker by 15 yards and the guy with the range finder said it was 157 out.  No wonder I was hitting that shot short.  I don't have the app, but I go on Google earth and measure with its device and am surprised at how close or long some of the distances I hit from are.  I am trying to memorize some of the positions I am usually in and trust the Google yardage.  Hard to gauge a shot when you don't have a reliable yardage to use.

Those are redundant statements.  In order to reach longer distances--especially for an average--you need to consistently get that swing speed/smash factor/launch angle, etc.  It's not as simple as being able to swing hard translating into long distances.

This has all been charted thanks to my Garmin S3. And yes I do own this many clubs and have used them all this year. I'm giving you the average throwing out the distances that I've mishit, and the ones that I absolutely caught pure and flew a much greater distance. I use a 25 yard range when I throw out short or long shots. I also don't record the distances when I'm playing into or with a strong wind.

I pretty much only decided on my bag set up for the remainder of the season 3 rounds ago. I'm going with the 15/19 degree FW, the 21 degree hybrid, 5I-PW, 50, 55, 60 degree wedges.

D: 247.3 (119 Swings)

13 degree Tour Spoon: 238.6 (12 swings)

15 degree 3 wood: 238.5 (24 swings)

17 degree 4 wood: 231.0 (7 swings)

19 degree 5 wood: 219.5 (14 swings)

18.5 degree hybrid: 209.8 (5 swings)

21   degree hybrid:  207.5 (18 swings)

21.5 degree hybrid: 196.6 (7 swings)

3I: 212.9 (12 swings)

4I: 194.7 (15 swings)

5I: 185.4 (16 swings)

6I: 174.4 (12 swings)

7I: 165.8 (20 swings)

8I: 156.2 (32 swings)

9I: 141.4 (24 swings)
