For those of you who aren't up to date with the new "high-tech" clothing, you might want to check that out. Throw on an underarmor base layer, a long sleeve thermal, a microfleece, and then a water resistant tech soft shell jacket with some type of gore-tex wind blocker, and you'll be good in pretty much any weather you'll encounter while the course is open. Especially if you walk.

like i said earlier, i just go play and i did this weekend, it was 28* on saturday and shot a 77 and it was 35* on sunday and shot 73. My two best rounds of my life were shot this past weekend in temps that make most golfers fringe. i love the winter!

I can swing a full driver in my living room, so I lay down the duct tape and go at it. Concentrating on swinging the club with not having to worry about hitting a ball is a great way to build a repeating swing.

I also practice my putting in the office on most days.

Great time of year to reset the swing, heal nagging injuries and get to the gym to strengthen for next year. Read some great Golf books and get in some Yoga. And re live all the great shots from the past year as you fall asleep hoping for 18 holes in your Dreams.

I just continue to play as much as I can during the winter. Playing in cold and windy conditions is how I started playing the game. I can promise you this though, I will NOT play in the rain this winter as I did last year.

I live in upstate NY (about 15 minutes frpom the Turning Stone casino and resort). They have a golf dome, in addition to some great courses. I believe the dome was ranked quite well last year and will be again this year. For $300 I get to play on the range, chip, & put 8-8 M-F. I'm lucky to be able to do this, as it certainly helps me continue to improve upon my weak areas and keep my swing/golf muscles in good shape. thatw ay, when i travel to FL mid-winter I have an average round and struggle far less than I would if I hadn't played in months.

Harvey Penick says we learn how to play golf in the winter and how to ski in the summer. Winter is a time for quiet and honest reflection on our golf game..what is working, and what's not working.

Take an honest appraisal of the current state of your golf game and make a commitment to your self to work on your weaknesses when the season starts. If this means spending 60% practicing your short game and 40% on the long game - sobeit!...after all, 60% of amateur's shots happen on or around the green - just food for thought. :)

In North Carolina we just keep playing. Layer up the clothes, take a hand warmer if necessary, and except on weekends, put your bag on your shoulder and walk. Your handicap will generally go up a shot or two but who cares, you are still playing.

Now that I live in North Carolina instead of snowy Michigan... I just keep playing.

When I lived in Michigan I would keep my game in shape by not playing or practicing until about March, at which time I would hit the range about once a week until April when I could actually start playing a bit again.

If I can still see grass I will play...

But, when the snow finally takes over, in all honesty, I do nothing.

I don't even touch a club, more times than not, I have found that taking a break, is the best thing you can do...

Ask Bruce Litsky... His caddy once left a banana in Bruces golf bag at the end of the PGA tour season, and when Bruce showed up for the beginning of the next season, the banana was still in there (YUK), which proves Bruce's claim that he did not practice at all during the off season. Bruce has played pretty well through out his entire career, maybe there is something to taking a break in the winter????

thing I hate about golf domes and hitting nets... if you aren't pretty knowledgeable about your swing and can feel when you make a good swing, then you could ingrain bad habits since you can't really see the ball flight.

    • Day 128: 5/3/24 Spent 10 minutes chipping and putting at The Creek golf course after visiting a relative.  Greens are slow, and I putted quite well. Perhaps I should seek courses with much slower greens!
    • Not to take away from the OP's question but the Snell 3.0 is about all you could ask for in a ball. I'm not a paid spokesman and my opinion does not reflect on the owner of the site. Lexi Thompson could beat most people with a Top Flite, or a Nitro. Ben Griffin? He doesn't offer a lot of street cred so I'll pass. Now if Fat Perez or Heavy Ballesteros start using it then?????? 😀
    • Just read that Peter Oosterhuis passed away. He was the one and only celebrity I have asked for an autograph! In September 2007, I was in the Charlotte Airport awaiting a flight reading my October 2007 Golf Magazine. It was during the FedEx playoffs and Tiger had just won the previous tournament with the Tour Championship the next event. I watched the event listening to the dulcet tones of Peter Oosterhuis, among others. I opened the magazine, and started reading an article about Oosterhuis and the opening picture had him posing as James Bond in a movie’s opening sequence. I looked up from the article and he was sitting directly across from me!    I approached and showed him the article and asked if he would sign the photo. Mr. Oosterhuis asked “Are you keen on golf?” When I responded positively, we spoke for about 10 minutes discussing the fact that both Phil and Tiger had won FedEx events prior to the Tour Championship. He was very gracious and a wonderful storyteller. I was saddened by his battles with dementia and missed him on CBS’s telecasts.
    • Day 50. Hand path follow through and face control technique work. 🤯 in a good way.
    • I have been playing the Tour X for several years and find it to be a great ball. I buy them at Golf Galaxy and they often run sales. Was able you buy a box of 48 for $90 after applying a coupon from Dick’s Sporting Goods. I am a big fan!
