Those who are against visors and aren't balding, can you give a real reason as to why you hate them other than "they're gay"?

theyre fugly.

I would suggest that your causal and correlation are a bit backwards here... I think those with good hair can wear a visor, those with thinning hair cant.. I do not think there is any science that backs up full coverage headwear causing hair loss.

Yup. That's an old wives tale that I know my grandmother used to buy into. Most balding is strictly genetic. I guess there are some medical conditions which can cause it, but I've never heard anyone in the medical community back up the hat theory.

I been wearing a ball cap for years but used to wear a visor from time to time. My head does get hot in the heat of the summer with a ball cap. Maybe I should get a new visor to wear? What I really need to get is a scally cap for the spring and fall playing season. That would be a look, rocking the Payne Stewart style on my noggin.

Not an old wives tale. Most people I know who play a lot of baseball and hockey are balding where their hat/ helmet is tightest - coincidentally their male pattern baldness is like a template for their helmet liner. Some are the only male in the family with any type of hair loss. A few guys have bald spots on their legs from shin pads and socks with too much elastic - you can see the lines match up perfectly. My hair was thinning along the sides until I switched to a bigger hat size - or no hat at all if possible. Now it's under control. Then again, now that I'm married I don't stress about hair loss - maybe that's a factor.

I wear visors exclusively.

Although, this season I am seriously entertaining the idea of wearing the new Titleist kevlar helmet replete with a plexiglass face shield so as to protect my super soft melon from someone’s errant shot.

I wear visors exclusively also. Let's see, this is a tough call. They are much lighter, feel better and look classier. Otherwise, we'll call it a draw, like that Monty Python skit.

Why does this thread even exist? I think baseball caps make a guy look like a conformist simpleton whose most profound thought process is where to aim his next spit. But I can't imagine starting a thread about it, or ever voicing the opinion minus a contrary vehicle like this.

Let me guess, the same posters who are paranoid about visors are the ones who get scared of iron covers.

For me a visor is a throwback to the 1970's, I don't care for them either. Think Poulter is about the only guy who can get away with wearing one. Besides there is more advertising space on a full cap!!

Low profile Titleist visors exclusively. Sucked last year because I started to shave my head and had to constantly apply sunscreen . Won't be the case this year because I let my hair grow back.

I would wear a visor if I found one that fit my head. I have a gigantic head.

I'll wear both about equally, and it usually just depends on what I wear that day as I have visors that go best with some outfits and hats that go better with others. But I have one comment on what others wear: it seems that I rarely see a tacky visor, but I run into a lot of people on the course whose hat looks like something bought at the check-out rack in a truck stop in Gila Bend, Arizona (or some place equally lacking in clothing good taste). Seriously, if you're going to wear a hat to the golf course, please wear something that wouldn't make an "I'm With Stupid" T-shirt look like a classy clothing choice!!!

Can you not see the bill of a cap/visor when you're wearing it?

I guess I could wear it backwards or sideways, but that would eliminate most of its functionality as well as get me kicked off the course.

Try a cap with black (or other dark coloured) brim underside. Also, get checked out for OCD. I've considered it myself (every morning when I have to back down the alley to make sure the garage door is really closed).

    • It was definitely odd.  The Course Ratings seems to reflect the actual yardages, they're a lot lower than I'd expect based on the "scorecard yardages".  Still, both courses were in good shape, with nice variety of lengths and shapes of holes.  I didn't dislike the pins at Eaglesticks as much as a few guys did, but I play a course with a few challenging (or odd, or even stupid) greens.  I also enjoyed the elevation changes at both.  Even though I know the Appalachians extend into Ohio, I always have an image of a "flat" state, and this was anything but flat.   As always with TST outings, it was great fun, seeing old friends, and making some new ones.
