Banshee.

I watched a few episodes of Justified and was pretty disappointed; I thought there would be a lot more action.  Plus the best actor in the show wasn't even the star, it was the guy who played Boyd imo.  I'd like to find another action-y show like that to watch though.  Preferably something not "dumb".  :-P

Justified was great . . well, it was terrible . . but somehow I really enjoyed watching it.  Maybe it was the scenery or something.  I just remembered about The Outsiders.  I meant to watch it but I forgot . .I see it's on Hulu so I'm going to give it a shot.  It looks like it might take all the ridiculousness of Justified and add in some real violence . . .could be a winner.

Banshee sounds pretty good/bad, too.  Oh . .another one is Longmire.  That one kind of reminds me of an updated Walker Texas Ranger . .you know, where the bad guys always lose and usually end up getting punched out by the star.  I'm a little luke-warm on Longmire, though . .it's border-line *too bad* .  .. but enjoyable in small doses.

Banshee has a pretty good, outrageous first season.  The second has a great moment or two, but after that I felt it got old, real fast.

I've been working too much to binge on Narcos season 2, but the first two episodes picked right up where the first ended.

I just finished Long Way Round (2004), which Netflix recently put up. It's a documentary series about Ewan McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman driving motorcycles from the UK all through Asia and Siberia across to Alaska and down to New York City. I very much enjoyed it and would recommend it.

I'm sick of the zombie genre but found myself watching Dead Set on US Netflix because it's only 5 20 minute episodes and created by Black Mirror creator, Brooker. Probably also because stupid reality show contestants get zombied.

Also watching Atlanta and feeling out what High Maintenance is like.

I watched most of The Outsiders.  Definitely not a "winner", lol.  The acting was OK.  It was definitely more violent than Justified but the suspension of disbelief required was just too great.  A lot of shows contain things that "could never happen" .. but The Outsiders is almost exclusively made up of things that could never happen.  As far as something to have on in the background while you're coding .. it was "ok" . .to watch it "straight up" might prove more difficult.

Caught up w/Halt and Catch Fire, season is really good, especially as it progresses. This under the radar show is amazing.

Westworld is intriguing, I have mixed feelings on it so far, some of the writing seems out of place and the cast is amazing but one main character feels miscast. Also, the production feels a little derivative.  I felt the same way about Game of Thrones' pilot episode, ambivalence wise, so we'll see but still, must see teevee for now.

Some great storytelling this season - Joe, Gordo, his wife and Cam have great, compelling arcs. That bit in the latest episode where the FBI agent threatens Ryan with the packet sniffer - that made no sense though but not a big deal, I get that the writers are trying to convey that Ryan felt like he was pretty much caught.

I didn't even start S2 of Mr Robot because the first episode didn't hook me, it sounds like it wasn't that good.

Yeah the packet sniffer thing was so dumb.

Happy to see it got renewed for season 4, despite abysmal ratings.

NSFW - New Black Mirror season coming. A show for our times to tell us just how f*** up we are, but you can't stop watching. Brooker's Dead Set, ostensibly about zombies, but a scathing commentary on reality tv, is also on US Netflix now, it's only 6 20 minute episodes, and if you despise reality tv and want to see reality tv stars, albeit fictional, die horrible deaths, this is the show for you.

I recently finished the six episode Docudrama series Egypt on Netflix. I thought it was excellent if you're into Egyptology. It's three separate stories: 1) The discovery of Tutankhamen's Tomb 2) Belzoni the Explorer and 3) the first translation of hieroglyphics through the Rosetta Stone.

The first one was my favorite, the last one, my second favorite. Fascinating stories. I'd highly recommend it to anyone into this kind of thing. All the bad reviews of the series say it's boring, so if you're that type, you're best off not bothering, but I was very entertained by it. I want to visit these ancient sites now. Great series IMO.

Really enjoying Task Master on Dave (for the guys in the uk) and getting into Westworld on Sky Atlantic. Stellar cast inc. Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris and that guy who played Cyclops in the X-Men. Worth a watch.

    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on. 😉 Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seem  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
