I admire any professional whose swing appears effortless. The Frenchman,

I got into this discussion a little late, but Jacquelin came to mind immediately when I saw the thread topic. Just wish he would win or finish high enough more often so we could see more of him on the European tour coverage.

I could watch Jacquelin for 10 minutes before a round, and it would do more for my score that day than 20 minutes on the practice tee. Another golfer who most of you are too young to remember, who had the same effect, was Julius Boros. He won the '68 PGA at the age of 48, and is the oldest golfer to win a major. Jack was two years younger when he won the '86 Masters. Here's part of the Wikipedia entry on Boros: "...While other players often walked around a hole and studied the green for several minutes before putting – sometimes from their knees, Boros is remembered for not wasting any time. He would walk up to ball and 'just do it.' Noted for his relaxed, nonchalant looking swing and manner, he is remembered for his catch phrase 'swing easy, hit hard.'"

There's one on YouTube where he hits a driver in some Asian tournament and you can hear him saying: "Take that, bitch!" in French as the ball zips away. So I guess even smooth swingers like to rip it...

search Youtube for 'Raphael Jacquelin Shenzhen' ,should be second on the list.Commentary is in French too unfortunately.

If you're going for pure style, you can't say Ryo Ishikawa doesn't have the coolest looking swing on tour. As for the BEST swing, I'm sticking with the young guns and throwing Rory McIlroy's name out there.

Not on the tour right now, but I'd have to say Gary Player has one of the greatest swings I've ever seen. I was reminded of this while watching a rerun of "Playing Lessons With the Pros" featuring Gary. It is really encouraging to see his swing and distance from such a small frame!

Davis Love III is my all-time favorite player and I absolutely love his swing. I even like the "tempo" with which he walks the course.

Lately, I've found myself watching the LPGA much more frequently than the PGA. There are a few swings on the ladies tour that I really, really like.

My equipment:

Driver - Callaway FT3 Fusion (9 degree)
3 Wood - Orlimar Tri-Metal (9 degree)
Hybrids - Bobby Jones (17, 21 & 25 degree)

Irons - KZG XCB 5 - PW

Wedges - Warrior (52 & 56 degree)

Jim Furyk. I'm partial to unique, self taught , repeatable swings. Lee Trevino's was my favorite swing of that generation.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

Jim Furyk is not self taught. Lee Trevino never had a swing coach but he too is not self taught.

Isn't that great! It really goes to show what immense talent he possessed to be able to play the way he did. What a great swinger of the club!

      My home course is Stoneleigh GC in Round Hill VA.  The course would get murdered, from the back tees its only about 6800 yards, and there's really not room to stretch it out. There would effectively be no par-5s, and several of the par-4s would be reachable.  For contrast, local qualifying in my area is often held at Woodmont CC in Maryland, which played to over 7300 yards this year.  It took 134 (-8) to qualify for the US Open.

      If you like Taylormade, they have produced GAPR clubs for several years now. They are not-quite-hybrids... but close. They come in Lo, Mid and Hi varieties which vary in how much they look like an iron. The Lo is almost a chunky iron. The Hi looks very hybrid-esque. The Mid is somewhere in between.  Since they've made them for a while now and come out with new variations on them every year, you can probably get a slightly used one at a pretty good deal. They change the color and tweak them here and there, but they aren't that much different. If money is no object go get fitted for one that gets you your 200 yards consistently.  If the GAPR doesn't work for you Taylormade UDI and DHY might be more your cup of tea. These are slightly more iron-y than the GAPR's.  Incidentally Ping also makes a similar product theirs is called a crossover.  Basically, all the big brands have something like this. Just search out Utility Irons and you should get plenty of options.

      Nope. Miami Shores GC in Troy, Oh wouldn't be considered for a qualifier. Even from the tips, it's only a 68.6/116.  Great course for average hackers like me, but not a venue for bigger competitions.
