That’s right I said it… moving sucks. The whole process is fraught with the stink of misery; from the packing of boxes, loading said boxes onto a moving truck, driving the truck, fighting the boredom of the road, and unloading the truck, to setting up all the household stuff in residence. However, I do take solace in the fact that I have moved from Denver (where it again snowed recently) to Surprise, Arizona (where it is likely never to snow).

This is not my first sojourn to the Valley of the Sun. In the early nineties I attended ASU for a spell so I am familiar with living in this kind of hot and arid environment. My fiancé, on the other hand, is new to desert living. She continually asks me how hot it will get. When we pulled into town in the beginning of May the temperature had reached ninety-five and she thought that it was really quite hot. I had to tell her that we can expect an increase of another twenty-five degrees before we are set to simmer in the sweat of summer – but it’s a dry heat.

The critter factor is another issue with which she is having some difficulty. We both are originally from Massachusetts. I grew up in Chelmsford and she lived in Woburn, and in the taxonomy of critters there really isn’t too much going on in New England. The same can be said for Denver. But the desert is a different story. She saw a scorpion the other day and just about lost her uterus from all the tension based screaming. I’m not necessarily a big fan of venomous things, but a scorpion is the very least of my concerns. The two things that scare the ever living shit out of me are sharks and snakes. I believe that I took care of the shark situation when I moved from the coast. Now I must begin to think about the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake; and of course, how to score some good antivenin.

Today is day thirteen after the move, and the ritual today is the same as it was the first day we awoke in our new abode. Every morning I wake-up and look lovingly at my fiancé and ask her if today will be the day that we actually get our house in order so that I can get to play some golf… Moving sucks.

Well said. Moving does suck. I've done it probably 25 or 30 times.

I made my first real move from home last July. Tampa to Jacksonville. Not much of a move, but it is still far enough to be an inconvenience. The weather is about 5* cooler here, which is a plus, and we have real waves from the Atlantic on the beach instead of little oily ones from the gulf lol. The best part about moving to Jax, is the golf. There is a plethora of courses and even the "really shitty" courses still put some to shame in Tampa. The quality of golf here is much better also. Just a great town.....on that note, I cant wait to move back to Tampa.

I moved four different times to two different cities before I was twelve, and then moved a total of eight times just while I was an undergraduate . Those eight moves were in the same small area, just apartments, and that sucked. But yeah, getting used to a new place is tough, even if you've been there before.

As much as I love the time I've spent in Arizona, there's a part of me that wonders if I will be able to get used to living there. This minor doubt certainly not going to keep me from applying for work there when I finish school.

I'm moving to Salt Lake City at the end of June and not looking forward to that process. Of course now I'll have to finally deal without golfing in the winter months, but during the golfing season I'll have access to some nice courses and some regular golfing buddies.

Why would you ever want to leave eastern Massachusetts, it's great here.

But, yes, moving does suck, very much.

I like the name of your new town though, Surprise. Sounds like something new to do every day....

We are moving from Eastern Massachusetts to Southern Africa next month. Easy little pitch shot, right? Plus, here's the money hole at my new local track.

Moving as a single can be tough enough (I've done it many times over the years). As a couple, it gets a little tougher (more stuff). Now as a family with kids in tow; well, I do not look forward to the eventual next move (just like George Carlin once said; we need a place for more stuff).

I've moved overseas once, and across the U.S. a few times - made it back to New England so that my kids could enjoy the four seasons like I had as a kid growing up in MA - Merrimack Valley (moved from Midland - West Texas).

Talk about critters - my first week in West Texas we had some massive downpours, and given the hard clay-type soil, one whole side of my office building was completely covered by tarantulas - I am talking about hundreds upon hundreds, all trying to not drown. Pretty cool...

Yeah, I forgot to mention we're taking two toddlers.

As far as critters go, I did have to shoo an Egyptian Cobra off a tee last time we were out. That sort of thing definitely calls for a long iron!

I hate hate hate moving. When I bought my first house last year, it was so stressful. The day after we moved in I slept until 3:00 pm the next day. ( :

I think the packing process is the worst, but that may be the lazy in me.

And while we don't have Scorpions in Kentucky, I once had a full fledged Black Widow spider build a nest under my Porch. I would have left it alone, but it had a male and I didn't want a hundred baby black widows pillaging my house. Pops came to visit and crushed it with his foot

Read somewhere that next to divorce, moving is the biggest drain on personal wealth.

I moved last month from an apartment to condo (first time homeowner ftw). It was one of the hardest moves I've ever made. The truck company gave me a truck that was smaller than the one I reserved, so we ended up having to make multiple trips. The two locations were about 30 miles apart, so it turned the loading of the truck, driving, unloading, driving back, loading, driving, and unloading again process into a good 12 hours. Oh and if you have an old sleeper sofa that is getting toward the end of its life, just throw it away. It honestly isn't worth the hassle of moving (unless you have movers, but I am way too cheap for that).

Last time I moved I lost 3 of my clubs; my putter, 3I and 7I. I was really mad.

The movers get here in an hour or two-and we've literally been packing the house for about a week and a half. This is coupled with the fact that I was taking finals through Wednesday, graduate tomorrow, I should be studying for the bar right now, and we're paying for the move ourselves. On the plus side, we're going from Buffalo to Tucson-so while golf will decrease in frequency for a couple weeks, it will increase come November-April.

We will be moving 7728 miles tomorrow. This week was just a giant pain in the ass. I'd rather dive headlong into a pool of my own vomit. Now have 19 hours on three planes to look forward to, in the company of two preschoolers, one of them sick and cranky.

Pray for mojo.
