I am getting some new balls tomorrow before I play, and I was wondering what I should get.
Selection of Brands include:
-Titleist
-Nike
-Callaway
-Srixon
-Top Flight
-Noodle

What should I try??? I am thinking the Srixon or the Callaway.....

Go find a bridgestone golf ball fitting day, they will give you all the numbers you would wnat, spin rate launch angle, ect.. Then just go and ask which ball does what and find one you think fits you the best.

That depends on what you want from the golf ball. Your question is nebulous in that you are simply asking for which brand to choose rather than which ball will fit your swing.

I have used ProV1's for the last couple of years, I get a lot of balls in my back yard from the course out back, so I have all varieties in my garage, and I usually bag them up in specific brands and give them to my buddies that like that brand. One buddy in particular kept saying to me that I was crazy for giving him all the Bridgestone balls I got and I should try them, so the next time we went out I tried them and I shot one of my best rounds, a 79, then I go out 4 days later and shoot another 79. I was using the Bridgestone e6+.
I am out for a round tomorrow on a course I have never played before, so not sure whether to play the Prov1 or the e6+.

With all due respect; with your hc I'd buy the most inexpensive ball cuz I doubt you will decern any differences at this point of your game.

I have to disagree with you on this point. The OP's handicap is about the same as mine and I can tell the difference between a cheaply made ball and a good, inexpensive ball just by the way it feels when I hit it. Someone who has been playing a short period of time might not discern any difference but those of us who have been at it a few years certainly can.

Well then you have an excellent sense of feel compared to many, many others. However my point for buying inexpensive balls was b/c he, and probably you also, have little ball control and most likely loose at least a sleeve of balls per round. So it mite be much more economical to buy inexpensive balls. I know that for myself at that level I was just hitting the ball and I didn't know how to spin it or shape the ball intentionally so Top Flights were great at that time for me.

They are all fine. Just pick one and forget about it.

agreed, that is until you know the difference, then you'll be playing a Titleist the rest of your golfing days

It's really pointless to generalize. I am currently at 20.3 and I played the last 3 rounds with a single ball (didn't lose it). I appreciate the soft ball for putting and the spin for holding greens. I got 4 birdies over those three rounds and the ball surely helped.

BTW, it is a Wilson FG Tour - a great ball that is available at a good discounted price because it's just not selling.

I have never seen such slavish devotion to advertising propaganda as what issues from your keyboard.

So all of the PGA TOur players using Callaway are Srixon, Nike and others are playing the wrong ball, are they? Mickelson, Woods, Clark...etc. etc. all wrong.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
