I'm curious what club other players use most of the time for chipping in the following two situations.

1) Just off the green where you dont need carry much rough and you just want to get the ball rolling.

2) Farther off the green, where you need to get the ball high and land it a little softer.

1) Usually 8i
2) Depends on the distance, but could be anything from PW to 58º wedge

Goes without saying does it not? If you want height, use a high-lofted club, if you want to get the ball rolling quick, use a lower-lofted club.

Yup, that's understood. I was curious what lofts people were using for each situation.

I use everything from a hybrid to a 56*

Depends on how far I am, but more importantly the lie, thickness of grass, and obstacles...

+1.

I practice a lot with my LW and I'm confident with it.

#1 - hybrid, 5 - SW depending on how much carry. Try to get it on the ground rolling right past the fringe.

#2 - 56 degree SW

Just off the edge PW, the rest depending on lie SW or LW. When I first started playing used 9I or 8I in situation one a lot, but with stronger lofted wedges these days and balls that spin at moderate prices, ( I hated balata, it cut and scraped so easily) it works better to hit it more firmly and spin a pw to control distance.

I use my 56* most of the time in these situations. I just simply open or close it depending on how much roll want.

I use the 52* for mosst of my greenside shots. I understand the thinking of using different clubs for different types of shots, but I don't subscribe to that line of thought. I'll use a 7 or 8 iron if I need to chip under a tree, and a 60* if i've really short sided myself, otherwise I find it easier to use the same club as often as I can...

I just got my first 60* wedge about 3 weeks ago and have learned how to hit all types of shots with it. I find it to be very versatile. I might go so far as to say... I love my 60*

Irons: Diablo Edge 52* and 56* Wedges: CG14 Chrome60* Wedge: CG15 ChromePutter: White Ice SabertoothBall: Assorted

I usually chip with a 60 degree for just about every type of shot. I can control the trajectory with it to match the shot that I am trying to play. On longer bunker shots I'll use the 56 degree and sometime when I am just off the green with little rough to carry.
In the Bag:

3-Wood: Big Bertha Diablo 15*
Irons: MP-68 3-PW Project X 6.5Wedges: JAWS 52*, 56*, 60*Putter: White Ice #9Ball: ProV1x

I would estimate that at least n-1 chips per round of mine are with my 56°.

    • No. EE is almost never a matter of just willpower. Making the changes you need to make — at the right speed, the right way, etc. — can be a matter of willpower. The actual moves involved in EE? No. Most people EE because they must in order to hit the ball with the other stuff they have going on in their swings.
    • I've actually been thinking about this @iacas do you think this can apply to the left butt moving forwards and back to prevent early extension? Just force yourself to do it?   For the record - I often overswing when I feel the need to feel my left arm crossing my torso and against my chest. I stop the back swing when I feel the left arm totally adducted across the chest which is way too long
    • The problem isn't the club.
