I really dont think its all that big of a deal, unless he breaks out a mallet or something. What he is using is probably similar to the anser style SC he has gamed for years. It is a shock though, because he was using that SC for so long and had so much success with it. To see a change after he has been not been playing his best is going to raise an eyebrow or two.

The mind is a funny thing and putting is as mental as it gets. Bet you every time he looks down at the Scotty right now he thinks: "I'm gonna lip this out ... ••••ing again!" Worth a shot.

Stretch.

Tiger's relationship with that Cameron Newport is the longest one he has had with anything or anyone for a while. I doubt the Nike will last as long.

I wonder how long he's been having an affair on the side with the Method and other putters before the Scotty found out. And does the Newport have a prenup?

I watched his interview in which he talked about why he was using this putter on these greens. He said whenever he is putting bad it's when he is on slow greens. His weakness is slow greens and he really likes fast greens. The greens are slow for this tournament so he wants to use a putter where the ball comes off hotter and rolls from the grooves on the putter. Alot of these comments are ridiculus, did you even watch the interview?

As others have pointed out, he's played those greens plenty of times with great success. I don't think it's ridiculous to speculate that maybe his interview isn't the whole story. Whatever the reason, he just feels better with the Method right now. Maybe it really is because he suddenly can't putt slow greens with his Cameron. /shrug

I guess one could be surprised but at the same time, not so surprised.

The Method is a great putter, so let's not think he's going w/ "lesser" of a putter. Secondly, Nike is, has been and will continue to be Tiger's biggest and most important pay check. Starting last November, Tiger needs Nike just as much as they need him.

So, one could speculate that he switched just for Nike and to keep them happy and maybe boost Method sales.

Possibly. Ive never seen anyone using a method putter. The putter i see the most out there is actually the odyssey two ball.

Glover and Cink both used one on their major wins last year, before the Method was even released to the public.

Paul Casey has used one since last year. I'm sure there are more gaming one who I don't know about. I realize the three I mentioned are Nike guys, but the Method putter is the real deal.

Could be a way to express his disappointment with his performance nowadays. Of course nobody believe he is putting poorly because of the putter, but if it helps him, why not.

Why are people surprised that the greens will be slower at St. Andrews this year? We have been having some really hot weather over here and they can't run the greens as quick as they'd like. They can't poor water all over them like the American courses to keep them lush and then cut them short. Also when we the method putter released? If it had been available in 2005 then that may raise a few more questions but maybe this is the first time Tiger has found a putter he is happy with on slower green over his Scotty.

Ok.

But the putter hasn't even been on the market for a full year yet. Hell, not even 6 months. It takes some time for people to "discover" new equipment, especially putters, IMO. As I said, maybe Nike put a little pressure on Tiger to use and thus boost their Method sales? Or Tiger did it on his own and wanted to help Nike out a little bit and game one? Or, hell, Tiger actually likes the Method better than his Scotty? Or a combination of those things.....................???????????????????

wow, I wonder how much $$$ Nike threw at him to get him to change...

Nothing, I'm sure the change is just for the slower greens. If he wins it may be a different story

I think you guys are being a little harsh on the guy with regards to changing his putter. As we all know if you have no confidence in your putting you are not going to win. He thought the putter he was using was not fast enough for slow greens so he has changed. The method putter is a very good putter and truly does get the ball rolling faster. I have one of them but I have become a mallet putter now and can not bring myself back to a blade style putter...

    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
