Higher loft on new drivers?

I've read somewhere because of the latest drivers maximize high launch and low spin, it's better to get a higher lofted driver than you usually have (if you use 10.5 then use 11.5 on new drivers). Is this true?
Whats in my Golf Bag:
Driver: Nike Sumo 5000

Older drivers had a higher COG, and produced more spin, thats why it was better to play with a lower spin ball. The new drivers have lower COG's and less spin.

For a driver, go get fitted. Each swing is different. Its not a rule of thumb to get a higher lofted club.

As saevel25 said you should get fitted. My understanding is that higher lofted drivers benefit those with lower swing speeds.

Thats pretty much true, i believe golf digest did an article on this resently and found that for those with higher swing speed, spin on the golf ball is the biggest factor when it comes to driving distance. They don't have to worry about loft.

But get fitted

I play a Big Bertha 2 Pro Series driver, 9.5 degree with a Raport shaft, stiff (from like 5 years ago). I always had a problem with blocking it and hitting it low.

I recently tested a new Titleist D2 (the 460cc version) driver...9.5 and stock shaft (Titleist Diamana Blue 65) stiff...and wow, I hit it probably 15 yards higher then my big bertha. Maybe a bit to high, but I loved it, and I rarely blocked it.

Had a buddy of mine hit my big bertha, and he plays an extra stiff shaft in his driver...said mine felt like swinging a tree trunk. So my raport "stiff" felt to him like X2 stiff, so all these years I have been playing a shaft way too stiff...hence why its uber important to get fitted.

I recently switched to a very high lofted driver and the results are solid. Got it off Ebay for chump change. On the Golf Galaxy monitor I got 3200 spin and a 16 degree launch. The guy was very honest with me and told me I am real close to an ideal fit. What surprised me was the trajectory I get from the thing. I thought for sure I would send it into the clouds, but it flies near the same as my 10.5 Nike.

I got lucky is all. Do what everyone says and get fitted.

Unless that 10.5 fit for that person as well as your 8.5 is fit for you.

True dat. I have a 10.5 degree G15 that's probably closer to 12 degrees real loft. And I still hit it with a pretty low trajectory.

I can hit my 10.5 degree driver as high or low as I want to.

it kinda does.

It affects the launch angle. Why not have the loft optimized for your swing? there's a reason why Bubba Watson plays with a 6.7* driver, at impact though the effective loft probably isn't 6.7*. to the OP. I think you could be right, most people won't have enough power for a 9* low spin driver so a few extra degrees would help. But on the other hand, some companies still have high-ish spin drivers. Taylormade's normal drivers aren't as low spin as their TP clubs. Same with Titliest.

Really? So why Long Drivers didn't use 10.5 degree driver? They use 6 to 7.5 degree driver instead.

      First going to spain for a long weekend in March probably going to play La Quinta, Los Arqueros and Fina Cortesin, and first week in May will compete in the Crawsnest Tassie at Carnoustie golf links, that will be a full week of golf golf golf and more golf. Did play it last year for the first time and it is awesome.

      Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.

      I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
