Do your clubs have wear marks?

Looking at the pictures of (allegedly) Tiger's clubs from the auction, I couldn't help but notice the wear mark on the 8 iron.



I hit the ball all over the clubface, so I don't get any marks, but are they always as low as this? I haven't thought too much about where the ball strikes the club, but is it really this low?

Anyone in here got wear marks on their club and fancy posting a picture? Or maybe even post pictures when you use clubface stickers to see where you hit the ball. Seeing the difference from a high to low handicapper could be interesting. I'll try to do it myself.

mine don't have a chance to get wear marks like this as i seem to replace my irons every 2 months!!! hahaha!!!

my wedges seems to wear pretty good though.....

I would suggest that people with single-digit HDCPs sometimes groove in a sweet-spot wear mark.

Double-digit HDCPers tend to have rock marks here and there from hitting lots of shots from the rough and other non-fairway places.

Only hitting shots on the sweet spot would be BORINGGGG... (I guess, i don't know for sure).

My irons are all fairly new so I don't have a lot of wear marks, but if I see my LW soon I'll take a picture of it. It looks fairly similar to Tiger's, just not that small.

Where do you expect the wear mark to be? If you hit the ball first and take a divot that starts past the ball you really can't have it higher on the face.

I've had my mp57 for a year now and they still look brand new. What do I have to do to get this wear mark?

Hit the same spot of the face thousands of times!

Hit thousands of balls on the same spot on the face. And not on the course either - at a sand based driving range so a bit of sand gets between the face and the ball on almost every strike. Also you need to hit a lot of 3/4 shots with mostly 1 single iron. You probably mix it up more at the range.

Basically, other than the wear mark version of pe**s envy, why would you want your new MP-57s to look like that? It's worn though the chrome, the copper, and into the raw iron. That iron is worn out.

Not mine but similar wear mark as my old Staffs had. My 695mb's had some pretty major wear marks but due to lots of abuse on indoor mats, they weren't pretty.

I have a less concentrated wear mark, and on a couple of clubs it is a little closer to the toe, if using a game improvement irons would the wear mark be a little higher? I am glad to know low is OK, I thought maybe mine was lower than it should be. I suspect because I use cast clubs my mark is not as distinct,

My 56* is starting to get a little rusty on the sweet spot. It is nowhere near as concentrated as the OP though.

i usually smash the ball so hard on the sweetspot that it takes about 5 balls to wear out my irons.

With my 150mph swing the ball is completely compressed across the entire club face. That's why to the casual observer it may appear as if I've struck the ball all over the face.

Yeah.. My clubs have wear marks... But not from hitting the same concentrated sweet spot every time. My only complaint about the AP1s is that they looked 10 years old after 2 months!

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Maybe I'll post a pic later (at the office now), but my irons are old and my 8i has a nice wear mark on the sweet spot. It's not quite as concentrated as Tiger's but it's there.

Isn't that the set that Tiger says may be his but not the major winning clubs that they are claiming them to be? Apparently he forgot that he gave them away huh even though he says there in his garage.

      Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.

      I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.

      Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.

      In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.

      Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
