Most number of strokes to get 100 yards off the tee

What's the most number of strokes it's taken you (or anyone you've seen) to get the ball 100 yards off of the tee box?

For me it's 4. I accomplished the feat last summer.
Stroke 1: I duffed a drive, moving it maybe 90 yards off the tee box towards the right rough by a pond.
Stroke 2: I pulled out my 5i and hit it under the sole tree by the pond. It was a good shot, but...
Stroke 3: My ball hit the sole low-lying branch and bounced back 20 yards behind me into the pond almost hitting some ducks. One stroke penalty.
Stroke 4: Another 5-iron got me onto the fairway and into the game again.

I'm curious about everyone's bad experiences getting the ball off the tee boxy, so I'm saying 100 yards, but I think in my case it was more like 50 yards. I just look back and laugh now.

My playing partner last Saturday was a bit late (out all night and showed up right after we were called to the tee box).

Duffed his first shot - i gave him 2 off the first tee for lack of warming up
Rolled his next shot maybe 30-40 yards in front of him.
Duffed 2 in a row with one actually going backwards
I think his next one was still short of the womens tees, not sure he made 100 yards after that but he was at least past the womens tees (there is an 85 yard distance between the mens and womens tees on that hole)

Whoa. I've had a lot of trouble getting off the tee before, but I don't think I've had that much trouble.

Never more than 2 for me as far back as I can remember. But I was in a match against another member this summer, and he heeled his tee shot into the native rough about 40 feet from the tee. He then proceeded to take 5 more strokes to finally get out of the deep grass, and he was still just 50 yards off the tee. It was his 7th stroke that finally passed the 100 yard point.

It was one of those real life Tin Cup moments. He could have declared the ball unplayable, and the 2 clublengths would have gotten him out of the 2-3 foot native rough for just one penalty stroke. Even returning to the tee would have been a good option....

Was down in Ocean City, MD for golf trip with buddies. One of my buddies started golf this year so he isn't very good. Tee shot bounces about 80 yards out so he pulls out his hybrid. He swings 5 times and ends up 3-5 yards behind where his tee shot was. 3 of the 5 swings made the ball bounce back a yard or so and the other 2 swings made the ball bounce straight up. The funniest shit I've ever seen, made me cry for like 5 minutes.

Oh and to add later in the trip he shanked a shot and hit my friend dead square in the chest. We all started cracking up after we saw to it that he wasn't badly injured.

Saw someone two days ago, some guy and his wife, his wife took 6 hits all of which just rolled barely off the tee box.She re tee'd it every time. So like 14 off the tee she belts it like 140 yards maybe. When I first started I prolly topped it like 10 times down the fairway to about 100 yards.

A couple balls OB then a duffed one barely in play. Anyone else remember that kind of hole during their first 18 hole round as a beginner? A lot of selective memory on this site.

Yeah, I was expecting to hear a lot of those stories.

As a beginner I (almost) always played OB as a lateral water hazard. I probably would've had a few times where I went over 4 strokes just to get off the teebox (two OBs will lie you 5 on the teebox), but I never gave myself that chance. Pity. And while I had plenty of duffs, I was blessed with the tendency to hit thin, rather than fat, so even a really bad shot would still roll 20 or 30 yards. Can't think of a time it took me 5 strokes to get more than 100 yards from the teebox, but it's possible I blocked out such a painful memory.

Nothing selective about it. Any such round I may have played happened more than 30 years ago. I played my first halting rounds in the mid 1960's. Sorry, but any rounds like that which I might have had were simply not remarkable enough to hold in my memory banks.

By the way, even that ball you hit OB likely went more than 100 yards.... The OP didn't say it had to be in play.

Ha! I hit 7. Holed out for a 21.

7 3wds pulled into a pond. Pulled out the driver & smashed the crap out of it down the fairway. I've still got that card. Kind of a constant reminder to keep my head out of my arse. So i guess my number for 100yds would be 15 strokes.;)

I hit 3 balls OB once in a row off the tee as a beginner! I scored 10 before getting off the tee that day, and 14 total on a par 4!

The plus side was it was all uphill from there...

Two, never double duffed before or anything like that.

But in a related situation, took me 4 shots to go 50 yards in the fairway, i was having serious issues with a banana cut into a lake to the right of me, it was close to shanksville.

A ball OB is more than 100 yards off the tee? Good to know - I'll just take my drop where it crossed the OB line - thanks for the rules update. Like I said - a lot of selective memory. Did you guys get to your current level of excellence at the driving range. I suspect we've all struggled on a hole with long grass in front of the tee box at least once in our golf career.

First trip ever to Myrtle Beach 10 years ago I played a par 3 160 that had a water hazard that spanned about 40 yards starting at about 100 yard mark. I must have put about 8 balls in the lake before I made it over.
