Don't get me wrong - I love my iPhone - but for golf swing analysis it's garbage.

I know I know... I'm holding until XMas to get a proper camera for the job...and that EX-FS10 for 90 bucks on Amazon is a great wishlist item.

I'll have some good stuff to upload then...but no sooner :(

Yeah I bought a JVC GC-FM1 about 2 months ago and it is great. However I am already wanting for more than 60fps. It is usable at the moment cause I am an 18 hdcp with some pretty obvious faults. However I think I will have to pull the trigger on the Casio with 200fps shortly. The biggest problem is that with my swing speed on my downswing I only get one frame when the club is parallel to ground and another around when I hit the ball. So I completly miss my wrists de hinging etc. The other thing is that there is no way to review the swing on the range other than in full speed.

Are you able to go frame by frame on the casio when reviewing the footage? The JVC just has play and stop.

Yeah, you can.

Is that not just depending on which video player you are using? Perhaps video format too.

I've not yet seen a Casio that can't do frame by frame on video it records. Not sure what you're talking about Zeph...???

I am talking about on the camera itself. When I am on the range I need to get instant feedback or else I will forgot what I am trying to do next time I go to range (I guess I could be a real nerd and take my laptop!).

That is what I am currently using my iphone for. Seeing as I am trying to rectify some pretty basic and obvious errors the 30fps of the iphone is sufficient. So far the best I have found for that is SP Free. It only lets you have 2 videos in the free version but as far as frame by frame controls goes it is pretty easy to use and instant feedback which is what I like.

Which slow motion Casio models are you looking at for around $100.00. All I see on the Casio site are around $300.

^^^^^^^^^

The EX-FS10 is under $100. Next (and worthwhile, in my opinion) step up is the EX-FC100 at $175 or so.

Anyways, I have been working with my golf pro who we sponsor and he keeps telling me what was wrong with my swing. We finally filmed it and watched it and saw what needed to change. I always knew what he was trying to explain to me, but watching it was the icing on the cake. My average drive before was around 240 with a bad fade (almost slice) and now hitting 290-310 with a controlled fade.

Feel isn't real and video is an extremely humbling experience. Kudos to you for looking at your swing in a positive light and making the required adjustments.

One thing I quickly learned after seeing my swing and all of the changes I needed to make was that I couldn't fix it all at once. At first I would work on two or three things each range session, but my progress was very slow. I have since then gone to working on one thing over a few range sessions and will then hit the video to see if I'm making progress. I have broken out the camera on some of the drills to see if I'm accomplishing what I am aiming for. While you can quickly identify flaws with video, I'm learning that doesn't mean you will fix them faster. You still need to take time to make the change stick before moving on to something else.

All very well BUT, how do you guys deal with the psychological trauma of seeing yourself for the first time as other golfers see you. Ouch. Reminds me of hearing myself play a musical instrument for the first time. A bit sickening.

I recently bought a cool videocam, HD c hard drive storage and golf-specific function (takes a series of high-speed photos, supposedly better than just the HD video). Haven't used it yet tho'.

Well, let's be real .... you're probably the only one that doesn't know his swing is ugly yet .... you've already shared it with the rest of the world at numerous occasions

And remember, you shouldn't be using video to rate yourself, you have a scorecard for that. Use video for analysis of issues and feedback during practice.

I was excited. I saw so many areas where I could improve that I actually looked forward to making the changes knowing if I did I would shave at least a few strokes off my game.

I know a couple of players who avoid it because they're afraid of what they'll see. I have recordings of their swings which show an obvious flip, but they're in total denial.

whats a "flip"? lol...

I just say no to video...total feel player. The exposure to such images may put me back in the looney bin.

I use video (extremely rarely) to confirm what I see in the mirror. Plus, if relying on a mirror (or sillouhette/shadow) it's hard to hit certain positions without straining one's neck. Coincidentally, pain is one factor in how I judge my swing. Did it feel like I was generating good clubhead speed and making good contact? Did the ball go in the proper trajectory, direction, and distance? Do I feel any pain after the round or range session? If the answers two those three questions are "yes", "yes", and "no", then all is good.

    • I have seen across twitter today most of livs biggest aloggers admit they wrong and the product is great for viewers.
    • Golf does not need those idiots who throw things like that. Not on any tour.
    • I have won the net division of the 2024 William Anderson Match Play Championships at Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
    • I won the net division of the match play tournament. Yesterday was the semifinals and my opponent conceded the round to me on the 2nd hole because he knew he would be unavailable for the final today. I got lucky there and got a bye into the finals. We did end up playing our match as an exhibition and I would have lost. It was the worst round of the tournament for me and I think knowing that the match didn't matter might have been a factor. I'll write up a blog post about the whole experience at some point. Today I won, 3&1. My opponent and I halved the first three holes much to his credit. I was striping it and he just kept scrambling and hanging in there. We both blew up on the par 3 4th hole but I ended up taking that one by holing an 8-footer for double bogey. I went up 2 after he put two in the penalty area on #5 and promptly gave that hole back by putting my tee shot into the penalty area on #6 by a foot. It's important to note that most of the penalty areas on this course are deemed environmentally sensitive areas and we are not allowed to enter or play shots out of them. So even though I physically was able to play a shot from where I was on #6, I could not, by rule. I followed that by winning #7, making a 25' birdie putt and finished the front 9 3 up after he had some bunker trouble on #9. I went up 4 by winning #11 (we both sucked on that hole but he missed the putt to halve). On #12 we both hit the green with our tee shots. He hit his first putt past the hole and I lagged mine inside of 4' with an uphill putt for par. His putt for par was too long again, just inside of mine but definitely outside of gimme range. I gave him that one for bogey. I felt at the time, being 4 up, that I didn't want to win the hole because he ends up missing a 3-footer and fourputted or something. I wanted to win the hole by making my par putt. I did not. He probably would have made the putt anyway (he's not me after all, and he made everything in that range all day) but it seemed like the sporting thing to do at the time. He was genuinely surprised I gave it to him, butI felt good about it. Then it almost bit me in the ass as he started to mount a comeback. We halved #13 after he made a great up & down and he took #14 with a long par putt. He also won #15 with a 5' birdie putt. We halved #16 with a pair of bogeys after he put his tee shot in the water and I missed a 4-footer for the win. We got to #17 and I was still 2 up. He hit his tee shot just off the back of the green to an extended apron area short of the back bunker and I put mine on the green pin high but 30' away. He was actually closer so I played first and hit it within a foot for par. He didn't hole out for birdie which sealed the match and ended up making bogey on the hole. With the pressure off, we both played the par 5 #18 well. He played it as a three shot hole like a normal person and hit it to 8' and two-putted for par. I striped my drive and ended up with a downhill lie to an uphill approach like 180 yards out and gave myself the green light to go for it in two. Thin hooked it into thick rough to the left of the green with a bunker in between and hit a high flop to 4', probably my best shot of the day. Made the birdie putt.
