Hi all- Attended my first golf clinic/training ever in my life. (Reading golf forums doesnt count Im located north of Philadelphia which has a lack of certified Aimpoint instructors. Over the winter, i was able to find Mike Dynda from Meadowlands Country Club in Blue Bell, PA. Mike and i emailed a few times (he was super responsive) to review what sort of things i was looking for in the Aimpoint Class and get a date set for when the weather turned.

One cool thing about Mike and the class was that i mentioned that i was really interested in the midpoint technique, but this was an Express Class. He said no worries and we had a one-on-one coaching session after the Express Class ended. Nice guy for doing that.

Aimpoint feedback: In reality, i never had a 'system' for managing my putting play. Im assuming most amaturers do not either. Im a highly technical person and just winging it using my eyes was a joke...as seen in my scores. Now I have a system that makes sense to me. Step one-get the info. Step two-practice. Step three-believe and watch confidence grow (and watch scores reduce).

Coach feedback: Couldnt ask for a more knowledgeable, patient, and stand-up guy. Hes also Drexel Univ Head Mens golf coach and used examples from his recent team play and his green charts (ie. theory into practice). To top it off, going the extra mile for me with my midpoint interest was certainly appreciated.

For me, this clinic/workshop was WELL worth the expense.

Mike is awesome!  He is who I went to to learn the midpoint read.  Did he take you out onto the course to do blind readings?

If I "buy" a book and loan it to 5 friends, the author gets paid once and 5 people other than me get the benefit of reading the book.

If I "buy" a DVD and loan it to 5 friends, the production company gets paid once and 5 people other than me get the benefit of seeing the DVD.

If I "buy" a CD and loan it to 5 friends, the artist gets paid once and 5 people other than me get the benefit of listening to the CD.

The differences in those are simple: when it's something you LEARN, you get the benefit of it forever. Five people do not get to "use" or "watch" a DVD whenever they want for that one fee. It is illegal for the five friends to rip a copy of the one DVD so they have access to it whenever they want, or to scan the book, or to rip the music on a CD.

If I "buy" a spot in an AimPoint class and then pass along the knowledge I learn to 5 friends, the instructor gets paid once and 5 people other than me get the benefit of the knowledge.

If I "buy" an education from a college and then pass all that information along to 5 friends, the college gets paid once and 5 people other than me get the benefit of the knowledge.

They don't get the degree, and they don't get the full benefit of the classes, either. You're not a college professor, nor are you a golf instructor.

Golf instructors (and colleges) are paid because they are good at what they do. So not only is it morally questionable, you're not really doing yourselves any favors, all because you, what, want to save a few bucks?

And… Adam Scott paid plenty to learn AimPoint Express.

I am going to go ahead and start a thread about intellectual property because I think the topic is interesting.. However, for now the only thing I will mention is that I will have no issue teaching my sons aimpoint just like I will have no issue teaching them how to grip the club, swing it, putt or any other aspect of golf.. All of these would be things that pros have taught me and I paid for it. Who here is going to tell their kids to go to an aimpoint clinic? And if you are going to why not tell him To go to the coach that showed you how to grip the club? Both are things you had to pay for? (Unless you leaned how to grip from YouTube ) ;)

Before I declared in a thread that I will take Aimpoint lesson, I thought it was one time lesson.  Pay the man $250 and be done with it.   I see now that there are 4 different lessons/classes.    What do people take and why, and in what order if you have limited time/budget?

If they ask for more details, I tell them they should take a class.

They might be the same thing.. Just different times.. For me the teacher combined what they called express I and express II into one lesson and charged me 200$ for it.. I don't know of any other parts and they haven't talked about it in the group..

Besides Ex1 & Ex2, there are two "Mid" sessions.    If I have to take all 4, I think I may put that money on Edel custom fit putter first.  My golf budget is like a US defense budget already and I need to be careful on where they go.

No idea what the 4 different classes are for.  I took the basic midpoint class.  I know they offered an advanced midpoint class, which I think got more into how to deal with longer putts or double breaking putts or something, I don't know - but I don't think I'm missing out much on not having taken it.

Now that they have Express, I'm guessing, perhaps, that there is a basic and advanced express class?

If I hadn't taken a class yet, I think I'd take the basic Express class.

I am stoked... Friday is my class ... I am willing to pony up the money as it means I get a quality lesson and all variables or questions I might add to my individual learning style/experience are handled effectively and to my satisfaction I am sure we have done the test where one person whispers in a ear something simple to another (in this case a complete lesson) then that is passed around ... By the time the last person gets it ... It's not close ... I do not want to be that person on the end or middle ... Also eye witness are the worse witness to have ... Enough said on that topic (don't even get me going on IP) I am taking the express class ... My concern is I can't tell level very well ... I followed the Golf magazine article this month and understood it ok, my hopes are it expands on that concept

One helpful thing to have is a digital level ( husky 9" from home depot $39.99) . It helps you with the slope. Took express level 1 and express level 2 with Mike Dynda , the best $$ i have ever spent on golf .

My express class is over ... I was very impressed. I can not wait to implement the lessons on the course. I still need to practice the calibration a bit I think ... in a nutshell I was impressed with the class. The gentleman was Drew Reid, if you are in the west Phx/SunCIty I would highly recommend him!!!

I went to the aimpoint Web site and couldn't find any clinics in San Diego. That's surprising as we are a pretty big golf market. Can that be right? I'm interested in express. Is the DVD worthwhile or is it just a marketing teaser?

Get enough guys together and perhaps @iacas and @david_wedzik will come out and do another clinic. I'd be interested.

You can't really learn it from a video. But you knew that.

@Shindig and @No Mulligans I think we'd have to get at least 12 total to make the trip feasible for them. So let's try and round up some interest and see how many people we can find who want to putt better.

Good luck finding nine golfers who want to putt better! ;-) I think we'll find them at some point. I'm definitely in for it.
