My old Nike cap is on the way out so I was looking through various caps at the pro shop. My thought process kept going to "That's nice but I can't wear it as I have no clubs of that brand" and even when I did have clubs of that brand I'd be thinking "Oh I only have a single club of that brand" or "I play that brand but not that model"

Eventually I felt so frustrated and limited by the bizarre restraints I was placing on myself that I decided to go full circle and chose a cap of a brand and model neither of which I play (unless you include my putter in which case I play a Ping Anser!)

Are you fussed what the branding is on your clothing? Do you need to be wearing a brand that you play/like or does it just need to look good and work as intended? Are you fussed about parading around with "Mizuno" emblazoned on your cap if you have nothing of that brand in terms of gear?

In general I go with what looks good and not rhe brand, except for Taylor Made.  For some reason I seem to steer clear of bags, shirts and hats with their name on it.

I choose hats on how they fit, I have a big forehead so the standard Nike flexfits are a bit too tight. I wear baseball caps personally. I also have a fitted Puma hat coming in the mail soon.

It's weird isn't it? I'd never wear a Callaway hat or carry a Callaway bag, but I put Callaway headcovers on my non-Callaway woods because prefer their design. I'd say Callaway is easily as polarizing a brand as Nike or TMAG, and I'd rather wear a hat with my least favourite sports team on it than a Taylor Made or Nike cap.

There are couple of golf brands I'd consider wearing, but all their apparel is just so ugly. I go with brands like North Face, Burton, Quicksilver, DC, Columbia etc.  I pick caps I'd feel comfortable wearing on the way to snowboarding.

I don't wear any "golf" clothing, so it's never been a problem for me.  I wear a 3rd MarDiv hat because I was in 3rd MarDiv when I was in the Marines.  I used to wear a Tommy Armour Ti100 hat when I was a teenager, though, and I love it.  I played cheap Dunlop clubs from Walmart, but the hat made me feel more like a real golfer, if that makes any sense.  I say just pick clothing that appeals to your tastes and you can't really go wrong.

I used to wear the hats that looked good, regardless of what brand name was on the front.  But I bought a white Ping G10 Tour hat when I got my G10 irons and I find that I wear that hat 75% of the time I play anymore.  And the other 25% I bounce back and forth between a Srixon Z-Star hat (the one that came free with the dozen from TGW a few months ago) and an '07 US Open hat from Oakmont.  So yeah, I guess you could say I now pay attention to the brands I wear.

I, too, stay away from Nike stuff for some reason...

Well, most of my golf clothing is either Champions or Bubba Golf, so that's not an issue. I've recently picked up some Nike clothing, but the only Nike hat I have is one I bought before going to the Chevron World Challenge, and that has a dozen autographs on it, so that's not getting worn. The only other golf brand hat I have is a Mizuno hat that I got from a Mizuno rep, and I wear it pretty regularly. I also have a Mizuno knit cap, which I wear sometimes. My other golf hats either advertise my club or aren't labeled at all. But even if I didn't like Nike clubs, I'd still wear their clothes. I think they make great clothing and shoes, and I'd still be OK with wearing both, even if I somehow had 0 Nike clubs in the bag.

At least Nike hats answer the question every golfer decked out in one brand could ask themselves. Do I risk looking like a tool?

Well, they also answer the question "Do I look good?"

FWIW, I think Nike make the most comfortable golf shirts in the industry....when I say Nike, I mean that 7 year old kid in Guangzhou

I like the Adidas line of clothing. Their pants and shirts are all pretty nice. I have a fair amount of IZOD stuff as well (outlet store nearby).

I'm only brand loyal on hats. Actually it was part of my contract when I was on staff with Callaway that I had to wear their hat, when I wore a hat that is. But, I won't be wearing any Mizuno or Ping hats. If its not Callaway, then its usually a hat form a course I've played, or no hat at all.

When it comes to clothes, that's a whole different story. Callaway's shirts are ill-fitting and devoid of style, I stay away. I love the way Nike shirts fit and have a ton of them. I was on an Adidas kick for a while too, but Nike is better. For winter I try to stay with cotton shirts, so that means RL Polo. I find the best pants at H&M; and/or Urban Outfitters.

I tend to stay away from golf branding while on the course. I have about 4 different visors that I wear (WVU, Titans, Adidas and Hilton Head National). I guess the Adidas one is kind of golf branding, but I was a big Adidas fan before I even started playing golf. Shirts match the visor I am wearing, none of which are golf related, I guess minus the Adidas. And my shorts are Dockers

I buy and wear whatever fits and meets my eye for looks.  My headwear on the course is either a nike dryfit visor or a ping visor. It is merely coincidence that I have a nike driver and ping irons.

I usually wear my Team Realtree camo cap, but i was at Dicks last week and bought a Ping G10 hat cause i liked it. I dont have any Ping clubs but that doesn't bother me.

I like the Titleist fitted mesh hats because they fit nice and its only a bonus that I use Pro V's.  I also wear a taylormade visor but I find that Taylormade hats don't fit well..they are too shallow for what I feel comfortable wearing.

I sometimes wear my Nike UK fitted hat, and I also sometimes wear a DC shoes fitted hat.

Yeah I'm kind of the same way. I generally prefer FJ and Adidas shits. I'm hoping to pick up some Nike shirts as well since I'm playing in the high 90s every day here in Alabama. For hats I usually go for looks. I have three that I cycle through. I have a Nike hat, Bridgestone visor, and a Titleist hat. I usually prefer to play a Bridgestone ball, have vokey wedges and a Titleist 3 wood, and own nothing Nike clubs wise. So I'm kind of mixed.

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
