My 4-iron does pretty much just take up space in my bag but I sometimes use it if I need to hit a low shot under a tree branch or if its a windy day.  If I took it out of the bag, Im not sure what I would replace it with.

Heck, I don't even carry a 5i, so no, I do not miss the 4i.

I use my 3i and 4i fairly often. The 4i is one of my favorite clubs actually. A couple of the courses I play regularly have holes in which the 3 or 4 iron plays into perfectly off the tee. I've hit a couple hybrid shots using my brothers clubs, and I prefer my 3 or 4 iron much more.

My 3 iron is my favorite club in the bag. It saves me everytime.

I played Saturday and used my 3 iron at least 5 times to recover from the right ruff. Great for low burner shots under trees.

Hit my 4 iron ok, but most times I don't get enough out of it and the distance gap between an average 4 and average 5 isn't that much for me. I replaced it with a 4 hybrid - easy to hit but also I get a more consistent distance gap between the hybrid and my 5 iron. Not sure I'll bother with a 4 iron the next time I change my irons.

Not very often I must admit. When I have a shot of around 200 yards or so, I use my 3. In fact I'm more likely to also use the 3 for shots even slightly less than 200. The 4 just seems to fall in a distance that I evidently don't have very often.

My iron set came with a 3 and 4 iron but I took them both out and replaced them with hybrids...

My iron set came with 4 and 5 irons and I took them out of my bag because I can't hit them very well. I use my 3h for 200ish yard second shots and that normally gets me near the green so I can chip or pitch onto it.

I have never been able to hit a 4 or 3 iron very well until I got my Ping G15s. Now I have the confidence to use it as often as I need to. It feels goods to hit a long iron that well.

just played a round on the weekend, this course has quite a few dog legs, and i find the longer irons easier to draw/fade hook/cut... i use my 4 iron around 6-9 times a round (4 off the tee, a few punch, and a few 2nd shots into par 5s) i guess thats about 10% of my total shots, so i guess i get quite  a fair bit.

Bingo! That's one situation where I use my 4i where I really can't imagine using a 4Hybrid. Sometimes hitting a low, long shot is just what the situation demands; 4i, ball back in stance, 3/4 swing and punch that bad boy out of trouble.

Happiness is a long walk with a putter.

The only 4-iron I hit was from a flyer lie. I airmailed the green on a par 5 while trying to lay up. The fellow who was putting at the time waited for me to play through on the next tee box.  Oops. Shoulda hit a 6-iron.
