1. Thanks, I hadn't seen that. Makes it unlikely that he'll be coming back soon. Or perhaps Foley has been let go and doesn't know it yet?

2. I think it would be one of the better events for him to come back at purely because there is no cut and he's guaranteed 4 rounds of competitive golf.

Nope.

Yeah, that T4 at Augusta (due to poor putting) was such a crap display of ballstriking...

Way to misread the article. It says "we" haven't hit any balls. As in worked together on the range. That doesn't mean Tiger hasn't hit balls.

You're right - it's better than a full-field PGA tournament!

Familiarity with the course, regardless of good-swinging or crap-swinging...I think 4 Wins and a low of T8 in the last 15 years answers that one.

You're right...again - he hit some balls with his putter.

C+

Must try harder!

Woods announced Tuesday July 5 2011 on his website that he has been advised not to play next week at Royal St. George's. The decision is not a big surprise, considering he said the previous week at the AT&T; National that he has not hit balls since The Players Championship nearly two months ago.

If he has been hitting some, it probably hasn't been a whole bunch, and I would imagine Foley would want to be there with his camcorder if he was hitting some.

Take it FWIW, but Jim McLean tweeted a couple days ago " I heard Tiger changed teachers again, but I have not seen it reported."

That was three weeks ago. If he has hit some balls, the first few days would be shaking the rust off anyways, not swing-building stuff that Foley would be interested in.

That's what I hate about the internet.... no good way for me to convey sarcasm other than > .

Yeah, McLean's entire tweet was:

I heard Tiger changed teachers again, but I have not seen it reported. Steve Williams would be my pick, unless it was Butch #Tiger #PGATour

The last part doesn't make any sense ... or sound serious.

Seriously though, sarcasm and cheap-shots aside, you never know what to believe what anyone says.

John Cook said (and I don't recall the exact quote): "his swing is really clicking" or words to that effect just before the WGC Accenture...and look what happened there.

Iacas has stated earlier that he finished T4 in this year's Masters...but as I countered, he's pretty good around that course from year-to-year anyway...remember the "I almost won the tournament with a 'Band-Aid' swing today" quote.

I'd be more concerned about his putting more than anything....as history shows us, every great player with a great golf-swing pretty much always get 'un-done'(sic) by the putting in the end.

I'd say get the knee/Achilles sorted, forget the rest of 2011 and make a totally fresh start in 2012.

That quote's from 2009.

And if you paid attention his ballstriking was pretty good all four rounds, with his driver getting good to really good on Saturday and then Sunday. It wasn't a case of him scraping it around and making a lot of putts to stay in it.

My memory isn't as 'encyclopedic' as yours.

I don't recall his driving being that good Sunday though!?

Shocking that putting let him down; damn, a few years ago he wins by 10+ strokes w/ those numbers - minus the putting.

Its not shocking, his putting has been dodgy since he lost the lead at the PGA to Y.E. Yang.

The media basically never talked about it or noticed it until a few months ago.

Its the same thing as the media always talking about how great of a putter Phil is yet hes almost guaranteed to miss a 3-4 footer during a crucial time in a major all the time.

Just saying, it was shocking b/c putting was always his number one strength, and driving was....not.  At least that's what the media reported. I'm not a golf stat geek, so I can't say for sure. I know heading in to the Master's the consensus was that his knowledge of the course would allow him to scramble around and make up for the expected short comings of his ball striking. Obviously, it ended up being the opposite.

Yeah about the whole couples night Friday, I'd rather not play a four hour nine stuck behind two hacks that don't really know what 'play through' means. Happened to me just last week. Very fun stuff. Pretty sure they spent a half hour on one hole...

YES, the pga tour pros are making more money then ever, but that doesn't equate to better amateur golf..   One of my local courses has a couples night on Fridays.. Couple can play nine holes with cart for the price of 1 player :)  My wife and I try to do a 9 and dine every Friday.. The course is normally quite busy.. They have even allowed a parent and child to take advantage of the couple special as well.. It's good to see a kid out there with a parent..

We need more of this.. I wish the media, especially Golf Channel spend more energy into promoting the sport, and less of the players.. Facts are that viewership of pga events has increase but it hasn't moved over to increase playing.. Meaning, there are a lot of Tiger fans, but those fans are not picking up the game and playing..  Sorry, didn't mean to rant

Handicap: 5

Haha! Even though I don't think it will happen as Tiger isn't coming back, the perfect scenario for me is that Tiger reaches 19 majors close to his retirement and then Rory hits 20 majors right when Tiger retires and can't do anything about it.

    • Day 20: Did 30 minutes after getting home from work, before kid's baseball practice. This session was piecing out the new hip move in transition, doing 2-3 rehearsals from the top, and then hitting a ball from between P5/P6. Did another 45 minutes after baseball practice and dinner. Did 30 more minutes of what I did earlier, and then about 15 minutes of full swings trying to incorporate athletically.
    • Day 296: did a stack session.
    • Day 126: 5/1/24 Putting and chipping practice. Slow motion swings with 8-iron.
    • #4 - 1st hole at Kingsbarns I rolled in a 15 footer for birdie. Showed my caddie an old guy could still play a bit. #3 - 18th hole at Basin Harbor Club, Vergennes, VT. I had played matches against my nephew over the years. He had never beaten me although through the years he had become a long hitting teenage golfer. I was 1 up but bunkered near the 18th green. My nephew had a long putt for birdie. I splashed out of the bunker to 4 feet. He rolled his first putt close and I gave him the par. Sadly for him, I rolled mine in and won our last match. He went off to college and then Europe for a Ph. D. It was our last match. Family champion forever. #2 - First playoff hole in the City of Livonia, MI “65 & Over” division. I rolled in an 8 footer that broke about 4-5 inches. #10 Whispering Willows GC. #1  18th hole at TPC Prestancia, Sarasota, FL. A 4 foot slicing putt for par to beat the prior year’s Member/Guest winners and win the Member/Guest with my father at his club. I was having heart palpitations as I played the final hole solo when my father put two in the water. There was never a better golf sight for me when that ball dove into the hole.
    • Finally, wedges getting somewhere. This one a punch gap from 87 yards to about 12 feet. Contact and ball flight absolute restaurant quality. It's nice when grass comes back.
