After Dustin just bombed a driver, Adam Scott grabbed the driver and started checking it out. Taylor Made must be salivating right now. :-P

Tiger's putter looked very good today.  Hopefully he can take advantage of his morning tee time tomorrow.

Side note - Tiger flew past some greens today. We all know how hard it is to find your exact distances again after time away from playing so I don't know if that's just rust OR caddie error?

He said afterwards that he was hitting it flush, he just wasn't controlling his distance very well. IIRC he didn't give a reason.

He said it was because he hadn't played out there in a while. Could take some time getting used to the distances on a course in a different part of the country.

this was the only portion of his game that he was "allowed" to work on during his time off. would imagine that has something to do with it.

He was smacking his driver a long way too ( avg 315y, T-5th ). His misses were only mild off the tee compared to what we've seen earlier in the year

tiger was hitting his irons just a little too far, I think this happens to a lot of people when they jump back into competition...I know it happened to me recently.  I think there is just a hint of adrenaline in a competitive situation and you have to adjust to it.  Some of his best shots sailed over the green and put him in some bad spots so all in all a very successful round to say the least.

I'm excited to see what happens the next few days, he was like his old self out there today.

Bag:
Driver and 3-wood: Titleist 910D3 9.5* + 910Df 15* w/ Aldila RIP 80 X flex
2-iron: King Cobra II Forged DG-x100

3-Hybrid: 20* Adams 9031DF DG-x100
4-9 irons: Bridgestone Tour Premium DG-s400
Wedges: Vokey 200 series: 48, 54, 60 DG-s400
Putter: original Cameron Newport gunmetal blue

I agree, but I also think not having Williams helping him with club selection was a factor.

why didn't anyone blame Williams when Tiger missed the green before? Tiger can't possibly miss a green! seriously, though, i think caddies have this whole "this is how far away you are from the hole" thing down pretty well. he's only been swinging a club for a few weeks. Foley nor Bell nor Tiger himself probably knows how far he's consistently hitting a club.

edit: my concern would've been Williams green reading abilities. for today at least, it seemed like Tiger was fine in that regard. i think there are drawbacks to letting Williams go, but club selection/distances aren't, especially at a point when Tiger is going through swing changes and just now getting the hang of the changes (at least that's what Tiger is saying).

I really do not think these Pros need a caddy to tell them which club to hit and how far to hit it,  both caddy and golfer are present when the notes are jotted down during practice so I am sure all the caddy is doing is refreshing the golfer memory.

Haha yea, thought that was funny..I mean, he must have tried out an R11 before, right?

While most pro's probably don't need caddies, you often see them consulting with their caddie about club selection.  Good caddies know how to read their pro and probably track and remember their distances better than the pro does.  I'm not saying that Tiger hit every green with Williams, just was throwing out there that Williams might have provided better input on which club to hit given his years with Tiger.

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
