For what it's worth, about am players and their driving range distance, I read John Richardson's book "Dream On". In it he went from picking up the game to breaking par for a round in 1 year.

He would hit to the back fence of the 300yd driving range consistently. One day some young kid was there hitting balls OVER the 300yd fence. That kid being Rory McIlroy.

You gotta take a grain of salt with any distances you get out of driving ranges. But then I find I can't get anywhere near the distances I get on the course when hit balls at an actual driving range (range balls, mats etc).

Instead of using google maps, I'd get a laser. Or at least a GPS if you really wanna find out how far those balls are going.

I was once at a range where the 250 mark was no further than 180ish out in reality. You know something's wrong when I can hit an iron 250

honestly google earth is pretty accurate, i would say with in 5 yards.. If an image is scaled right, you can get close.. But yea, laser and GPS are the best

Standard Google Maps shows yardages, if you enable them. Select the cog icon in top right corner. Then select Maps Labs, and from there Distance Measurement Tool.

I wish my range was more like that. Our has limited flight balls, but accurate yardage markers (flags - laser confirmed). By the time I leave I feel weak and useless.

don't doubt that you can do it.....but doing it in flip flops is incredible.  I can knock it out there (but can't average it) but I have to really use a bunch of turf interaction with my cleats.  impressive

sorry best i could do! figures to 305 guessing my best on where I was standing and where it hit the trees. If it's within 5 yards it's roughly 300.

Here is the video, i dont see the big deal with flip flops haha! The feet don't move a ton, I think they help with balance!

The swing is quite long, a lot of wrist hinge, and a fast looking turn through the ball. I don't doubt he hits it out there quite far. However, why anyone gets their knickers in a twist over how far anyone else does or doesn't hit the ball is beyond me. Is it really such a big deal?

A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

That's a nice swing considering how long you were playing.

With a huge drive I could probably just about roll out to 300. I think I've hit 300 yard drives twice in my life.

Clearly the key is long, smooth, and slow, especially at impact.

    • Day 66: Played 18! Wasn't really keeping track of score, but guessing in the low 80s. Driving okay, iron play up and down, lagging putting really bad. Overall, it was good to get out and play.
    • Day 41 - 2026-01-30 More backswing and grip work on the mat / net. Also some mirror time focused on trail weight.
    • Day 12 (30 Jan 26) -  Had hoped the men’s group would be playing, but the cold temps and delayed opening kept them at bay. Spent some time on the range working on loading the trail foot on the backswing (focusing on loading the inner portion of the foot and collapsing the knee slightly toward the ball). Learned too much really brought on a left pull.  Easing back a bit, really helped compressing the ball and overall accuracy.  Took it to the course for a practice round, focusing on this small change.  Saw better dispersion across the bag….guess this will be part of the mirror work drills as snowpacolypse 2 hits eastern NC.
    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
