It'd be interesting to see that on tour. I'd watch it...

Yeah but he was the mazing golf ball whacker guy...

For me, I think I stand at address, waggle to check my grip, waggle again to check my ball position and stance and then off I go.

I'll do a couple waggles just to be sure I'm not gripping to tight, then once I set the clubhead in place, I'll exhale (that's my was of telling myself to let go of any tension), a little forward press, then GO.

There is such a man who does something similar...he's more of a legend or god.   The one and only Jack Hamm, creator of THE HAMMER and New Hammer X Driver!!!   But he lets out a KA-POWWWWW when he is hitting his 400+ yard drives.  ha ha

I watched it as well...actually what i picked up the most out of it was Hope's putting routine...before ever putt he would line up to it, put the putter behind the ball, then pick the putter up and place it IN FRONT of the ball. I thought it was interesting.

I have my weight distributed on my left heel and right toes. Larger percentage of weight is towards the right foot. To initiate the swing, I kinda press the arms together and slightly out, and hands towards the target while moving lower body weight slightly from right to left, while turning the head a few degress away from the target. Then the momemtum of what I've done gets the club started.

I do one practice takeaway (short) then a slight forward press then bring the club back.  I'm thinking of changing this because I am working on my swing with Evolvr and I want to break bad habits I picked up last year due to shoulder surgery.  If I have a new start, I'm thinking it will keep me away from old swing habits.

I start with a small forward press. I try to keep it to small as if it gets to big it is problematic.

Sneed was lights out on Celebrity Golf. He had a stretch there of 3 birdies and was just knocking down the flag stick. Very impressive match.

My "waggle" is actually me lifting the club up and down off of the ground with my fingers. I guess it let's me feel the weight of the club head and keep the hand muscles loose. I'll then start the swing with a small forward press and go. I have ADHD, so I can't stay still during my routine or else my mind starts overdoing it. My best shots happen when I have no swing thought other than the target.

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

Nick price did the same thing for years. I think he just stopped doing it because he jumped on the belly putter train

I didn't know what I did, so I looked at it on video.  After setting the club down, wiggling the feet, and waggling the club some, I push both knees a touch (maybe half a centimeter?) forward and the rebound sends me into my takeaway.  It gets me thinking about my legs and hips in the swing, which seems to be my biggest problem right now.

"I always wondered if it was possible to gain distance by letting out a grunt. You know like a tennis player."

I have a friend who does this, entirely unconsciously. When I tell him about it or make fun of him for it he seems completely oblivious to it but it definitely works for him. Not quite as loud as a tennis player but he definitely grunts followed by a sort of sigh. He hits it further than I do. He's about a 6.

I stand over the ball for entirely too long before I swing and really need to develop a routine. I like what iacas suggested, seems like a good thing to try out.

I had the same problem. I found a drill about lifting and lowering the right (back) heel to begin the swing. It's helped me a lot and doesn't negatively impact the swing/tempo/etc. I don't have to do it on every swing, but there are times when I freeze and just keep staring at the ball- that I can tell I need to use a good trigger. This particular one is good because it initiates the transfer of weight to the back leg for you- so it helps both physically and mentally.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
