With Mahan, Rose, and Woods all playing well, I've got to give, oh I don't know, maybe 5% credit to Foley.

I think the folks at the Honda couldn't be happier. Tiger makes the cut and then has his coming out party on Sunday afternoon while Rory manages to play conservative and not take any unecessary risks and cruises to victory as the new #1.  The Honda just got elevated to a new status and I am sure Jack couldn't be happier as his charity and legacy with the Champions Course goes forward.

I am already looking forward to Doral, and will send you guys a report from the course Friday.

Nice call.  60 would have got him in a playoff.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Good call.  And Tiger actually kept going strong in the clutch.

Don't forget Lee Westwood.  It feels like Tiger, Westwood and McIlroy are on a collision course for the majors this season.

Actually I think 60 would have won it.  To post that score would have meant at some point he would have had the lead on Rory (before Rory sunk the putt on the 13(?) for birdie to get back to -12).  If Tiger has the lead, I have my doubts as to whether Rory still would have made the last 2 of those very clutch 10+ ft par saves.  But, he did, and earned himself the #1 ranking.  Whether or not he wins any majors this season, I think the #1 ranking will be tough to get away from him because I can see him having top 10 finishes in at least 3 of them.

So you're speculating about what Rory would have done had something that didn't happen happened.

Maybe you're better off just saying that 59 from Tiger would have won it.

Or 65 from someone else.

For some reason, when I read that my brain thought it said 2013, and I was like "man, they printed next year's tickets up fast!"

Tiger did keep it strong...I thought he was loosing his cool there for a second on 16...but he hit the par putt and you know the rest.  badass!

I can't remember if I have never been more excited for the majors!  And I am going to the PGA!!!  Woohooo

I guess I agree that Tiger probably would have won if he posted -12 but....woulda coulda shoulda...

Sorry that internet speculation offends you so much.  I should probably be banned.  Nevermind merit...who cares about such things?

Or it might not have been good enough.  I don't think Rory lays up on 18 if he is tied with Tiger.

What is that supposed to mean?

Merit......? Rory played great under pressure. Did exactly what he planned to do. Is now #1.

And here you are saying ...."Oh....I don't think he would have made those putts had x happened....."

You don't deserve to be banned, but McIlroy deserves to be judged on what he did do, not what he didn't not do had someone else done something other than what they did do.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
