Playing this course next week, can't wait for another trip around it, Ballybunion Links in Ireland...this is a picture I took back in March, it doesn't do it any justice.

I'm expecting the skies to be a lot darker for this round. Golfing in Ireland, in December..... only for the brave (or stupid)

Ballybunion is at the top of my favorite course list, ever played.

If I recall, this photo is looking down at the 17 fairway?

Thanks for sharing, brings back great memories.

I'm quite lucky, a friend got accepted as a member this year, looking forward to a lot of golf there over the coming years.

I have another golfing pal that took a year out to play EVERY course in Ireland, he wrote a book about it and ranked his Top 100, he has also built up quite the photo collection too, you may have played a few more courses while you where here, he should have plenty of photos to bring you on a trip down memory lane.

(Hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting this link)

Here's his collection of 6,000 + photos from courses around Ireland.

I'll update this thread with photos from over here as I play them.

My home course (Springfield Golf & CC) with the new fairways and new bunkers, course still closed until the Spring to let the new turf to grow in more.

The Tee shot on the third hole at Old Macdonald.  The Best line is just to the left of the tree.  Fortunately, you can still hit it 40 yards to right of the tree and still be on the fairway (I love links golf),  Long second shot though.

I will take some pictures with my camera soon but these are a few off the net.

#6 a downhill par 5. most lay up because that ribbon of fairway on the right is only 15 yards wide and if you put it in that grass good luck finding it along with the rattlesnakes.

Aerial view, on the hillside.

Hole #2 short par 4 everyone usually lays up on right side of fairway.

#14 This is one of the toughest holes, long par 4,I like to stay back on the right side of the fairway on the upper level, that pin placement is very very tough, the green slopes to the back and the green is very fast, from the tips and that pin placement the hole measures close to 480.

This was hands down one of the most unique golf holes I played all year. It's amazing how much room is out there right of the tree. 7 was also another favorite on Old Mac.

Also sorry about the dual posts, cant figure out to delete one of them :)

My home course, a great old George Thomas track, on a segment of Myphillygolf.com. We hope to have phase 3 done for opening day spring of 2014, but Mother Nature has not been cooperative in December.

I shot 104, I hit some good shots, I really struggled off the tee and the greens were really tough.  At the end of the day i got to play a beautiful course and I felt like I got better.

Not my personal picture but this is kind of cool, short video of my home course. Makes me glad spring is getting closer. With daylight savings being 3/9/14 just a month and a half before we can go full blast.

    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
