I agree, Chic-fil-a was the only fast food I'd eat when I lived in Virginia.  I wish they were in NY.

How is this any different than Fowler being sponsored by Red Bull?  In the loosest definition, anything that alters the body, including food, should be deemed a drug.  Just watch out, next we'll be hearing of oranges being considered drugs because of the Vitamin C benefit.

FYI, I do not drink any of these energy drinks--they cannot possibly be good for you despite some of the claims of being "just B-Vitamins."

Always changing:

Driver: Cobra S2/Nike VR Pro 10.5º

Irons: Callaway X-20 Tour 4-9i

Wood: TaylorMade R11 3w

Putter: Odyssey White Hot

Wedges: Titleist Vokeys - 48º, 54º, 62º

First round: February 2011

I was just thinking of the connection to RF. But at least in Fowler's case, his image is more geared at a target market, as to Furyk, maybe old slow guys need to switch from coffee to 5 hour energy?

WOW so glad I am not the only person who finds these ads troubling, boring, and uneeded in the world of Golf. Jim Furyk you should be ashamed of you self for putting these stupid looking logos on your hat & shirt and for making these ads promoting the use of this stuff as a way to get you through " a meeting or a round of golf" You dropped way down on a lot of peoples popurilarty lists..

Is this meant to be sarcasm? If not then you really don't understand the popularity of energy drinks. I'm not a fan myself and have never had one but most are no different than getting through the day with cups of coffee. And to hold golf to some higher standard is a bit old fashioned IMO. The same sport that had to be dragged into the Civil Rights era against it's will.

No sarcasm, and if i'm a little old fashioned, Thank you. I never cared for golfers that look like they have a NASCAR suit full of advertising plastered all over them and Jim's new logo on his hat and shirt are about as close as they come to that... The stupid comericials are just about the iceing on the cake..... I'm very disapointed in ANYONE who sells out, or cashes in like that....

Here is a poll:

A guy that relies on a bottle of vodka to get him through the day....

or a guy that relies on a gram of speed to get him through the day

If you had to choose one, and ONLY one, who would you choose?

Why all the hate? There seems to be a running overall theme in these forums. Everybody is hating on something.

As for "cashing in" . What? Are you serious? You are talking about every single top player on the PGA Tour! They all make money from sponsors! All these commercials are stupid, sure, but they all get paid big bucks.

What are you a preist or something? Oh you're that guy, the guy that knows everything, is an expert on everything.

The PGA Tour wouldn't be alive without sponsors. It's been that way since its inception.

Come on man, just chill out people. WHO CARES?

Not sure your poll is gonna go too far. The fact that you referred to it as a "gram of speed" says enough... I would choose neither...if anybody NEEDS either to get through their day, they are a loser. And there is a huge difference between 5 hour energy and a "gram of speed"....what is this 1985?

Why doesn't Furyk wear his 5 Hour Energy Drink hat when he coaches basketball?   Because he is clearly not wearing it tonight while coaching Ohio vs. NC!  ha ha!

He looks exactly like him.

Although he may need a 5 Hour Energy for overtime!

A bottle of vodka? You're not going to have a lot of days to get through after long. Don't really see how either of those compare to caffeine or specifically 5 Hour Energy.

“5-hour ENERGY® is a product I have used for over a year now,” said Furyk, “I’m excited to represent a product that I really believe in, and I’m looking forward to introducing new customers to the benefits of 5-hour ENERGY.”

That's a quote from their web site. So it seems to me either he is getting paid a lot to say these things or he really believes in it. Either way i think golf sponsors should be limited, but not restricted to golf orientated sponsors. Keep it in house as much as possible.

I'm not too worried about this choice as I see it as a lose-lose. If anyone thought that 5 Hour energy was cool before will now be looking for a new product. If 5 Hour wanted to make a splash, they should get a new logo and sponsor Ben Crane. Crane could then drop his entire Pre-shot routine and become the fastest golfer and be the USGA spokesperson on ready golf. Now that would be a Win-Win. Seriously, did 5 Hour do any market research with their logo hat and choice of endorsers?

The sad thing is that these days 5 Hour Energy might not last a full 18 holes. :P
