Click "The Masters Vault: Hogan Plays Augusta" for 2:54 of goodness.

Obviously that page has other good stuff, but I think the Hogan clip might be the best. Check out the shaggy grass! Seems to be the late 40s.

Wow, pretty amazing stuff. My favorite was the approach shot from the fairway on 13. You could really see the curve of the ball off the club face.

We talk about how good the players are today, but watching this clip shows how good Hogan really was. Amazing stuff especially given the equipment and balls.

Great stuff here.  Do you think Hogan hit those shots live the first time or they did multiple takes and kept the best ones.  If he hit them all on his first try he's even better than I imagined.

Thank you for this.  I had not seen it before so it was a great treat.  The Byron Nelson clip was also quite a nice one.

Agreed those shots were impressive.  It really is amazing considering the equipment difference.  He was hitting a 3 wood onto the 13th green and the commentator mentioned guys were hitting 5 irons into it now.

I think I could watch the up-the-line tee shot (around the 0:58 mark) on loop for about an hour. Beautiful. Makes me want to go read his book again.

In the bag:

Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

It really shows the brilliance/skill of the man. Everything was hit stiff. I especially liked when he hit the chip shot to like 3 feet then dropped another ball and holed it.

Cool video. You don't see that kind of material too often. It was no coincidence that he won as much as he did. A bit different practice rounds today where the crowds following Tiger are as large as on a regular tournament. :-P

My favorite Hogan story: he was on the range hitting three iron draws. His caddie was standing about 200 yards away with a shag bag. For about 25 shots in a row, the ball would land in the same spot, bounce once, and land in the bag. The caddie didn't have to budge. Then Hogan missed his target by a yard, and the caddie had to take a step to the left to catch the ball. Hogan grumbled to himself, hit another 20 perfect shots, and then hit another one where the caddie had to take a step to the right. Hogan looks disgusted and says, "Damn it, I used to be able to hit that shot."

masters.com is seriously one of the best sites around! And this is another example why. Thanks for sharing erik

Good stuff. Along with the Hogan video, I enjoyed the clip of the very first Masters.
