I'm in the midst of some swing changes as I've been trying to correct my pull/pull slice.  I put a lot of work in today and can comfortably hit a high-draw with my irons.  If I had to choose though, my trajectory would be a bit lower, though there are definitely advantages to hitting it high.  What would you pick?

I'd love to hit a mid draw on command =)

I chose high fade ... currently I don't have a "stock" shot, which stinks because I don't know which way I'm gonna miss.

I don't usually play in a lot of wind so the higher the better I think, and a fade is what I used to have and I liked it.

I would go with the high draw.  You need to hit it high around here to stay on the rock hard greens but it's also windy a lot so at least the draw is a bit better in the wind.

My current shot is a pretty high fade if I play the ball up in my stance or a pretty mid-low draw if I play it back.  That is if I don't top the freaking thing!

I love hitting a high draw where the ball takes a hop and stops with a long iron approach.

I like a high ball flight and voted high fade, though I like my natural straight ball flight.

I voted for High Draw because that is my shot shape and I can control it.

I hate any UNINTENTIONAL fade/slice! (I don't want to be like 90%+ of the golfer ).  Fade/slice is like a common cold.

The high draw would be a great stock shot to have. Buddy of mine hits a nice high draw on a regular basis and it's a beautiful thing. I'm in the same situation as goldingdad, I miss right on one shot and left on the next . Frustrating.

Out of the choices available I would have to choose a high draw.  It is by far the prettiest looking shot.  But wheres the choice for the high straight ball?  I think it works as good (if not better) than any.  The straight ball is my stock shot and I love it.

Straight is only good for short shots long balls need curve to help control and become more accurate. You can miss left ir right for a straight ball

And if you set up for a draw and it fades you miss the green by a wide margin...

Its not a game of how, its a game of how many.

Yes, but if you have a fairly consistent draw or fade vs. a fairly consistent straight shot and eliminate one side of the course, then you have effectively doubled your margin for error.  If you are driving into a 30 yd wide fairway and aim for a straight shot, then you can only miss 15 yards either way.  If you play a 15 yd draw, then you can aim for the right edge of the fairway and still hit the fairway if you hit it straight or overcook it by 15 yds.  Doublecrosses do happen, but a lot less often for those that are able to consistently hit a fade or draw.  (Currently I don't know which way I'm gonna miss so I have to aim for the middle, but I'd like to be able to hit a consistent high fade)

For irons, very slight draw - virtually straight - and not too high.

Hit straight and you have both sides of the fairway as a safety margin. Aim right and hope for "a fairly consistent draw" and you only get to use the fairway for the ones that draw.

I've never been able to hit a consistent draw but have hit a fade for 40+ years, 30+ years as a low single figure handicapper. It works for me but its about what suits any particular individual. I prefer a fade because it lands softer. Get a draw going a bit awry and its get too lively when it lands, What I lose in distance I gain in it pretty much staying where it lands...

Mid-height straight. Been working to get ball down from high-straight.

If not straight, mid-height baby draw for long shots.

If you aim at the flag, any curve and your ball is getting further away from the flag. Very hard to hit it close that way.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
