That's how we keep keep things decent around here.

So that is how it works

This is a question that isn't totally deserving of it's own thread, nor is it terribly out of place here, so here goes:

I am writing a report, and my report is referencing another report by title.  Said report has an obvious typo in it (a mis-spelled street name).  Is it proper for me to go ahead and fix that spelling error in my report, or do I have to leave it in as-is, because it's the actual title of the report?

As an example, the report I'm referencing is a geotechnical report titled "Preliminary Soil and Geology Investigation, Proposed Residence, 3050 Sceond Street, Orange, California."

Can I say, "As shown in the report entitled Preliminary Soil and Geology Investigation, Proposed Residence, 3050 Second Street, Orange, California.

You could consider: "As shown in the report entitled Preliminary Soil and Geology Investigation, Proposed Residence, 3050 Sceond [sic] Street, Orange, California. " If the whole title was in italics like you put it, I believe you'd have to remove the italics for [sic] , because [sic] is usually italicized.

Usually that form is at the end in a list of references you will cite from.

In the text you usually have your sentence(s). Then you will have some short hand in parenthesis. (Author of article, publish year, p. ##-##)

So for yours, it would be the facts you want to cite, then in parenthesis, the author of the article from the Preliminary Soil and Geological Investigation, the year it was published, and the pages you are citing from.

At least that way you are not quoting that long title every time you need some sort of information.

I would research APA citation.

Oh, that's a good idea.  It ultimately doesn't matter, because this is a report that nobody is ever going to read, but I was just curious.

Thanks!

I think that's a pretty common misconception. People assume it's the tournament that belongs to the masters of the game. In which case, it should be the Masters' but...it's not.
