  1. 1. Go golfing (9 or 18) by yourself?

    • Absolutely, there's nothing wrong with doing that.

    • It's a little lousy, wait until you get another or several before going to a course.

He doesn't really do anything, I just get stressed out when I play him. He is pretty competitive, so maybe I pick up on that and play beyond myself, which always gets you into trouble. This guy can smash it a mile, and he's a fair putter too (out of my league, really), but I always feel in the back of my mind I have a chance to beat him. Never happens, though :-).

I find it soooo much easier to bail on work and just show up at a local 27 hole course. they usually just let me go off on 1 of the 3 Nines by myself.

My my golf friends are 18 or nothing.

Not to mention trying to coordinate with the guys can be complicated. They want to play close to home, not close to where I work. they want different times. And 9 or 18 with some of them can turn into an excursion.

Really, if you are playing golf you just need you a ball and the course.

I tend to play better, less distractions and I score better.

Then every so often I get plugged into a group and it either works well or I keep to myself.

One thing I've found is that nobody I know will walk. It's a heck of a lot cheaper to play alone for me.

I primarily play golf by myself. I prefer that most of the time so can concentrate on my game (hit a few extra when I hit a bad shot etc. The only time I really play with anyone is when I go down to my brother's in California. Or when I get paired with someone.

Hi I play 9 holes on my own twice a week I can work on aspects of my game it is a great way to sort out any problems in your game best of luck to you golf is a great game

I do prefer playing with friends.  But when thats not an option, I go by myself.  I find I can concentrate better alone.  Even if they pair me up with others I can still concentrate better.  With friends I tend to get frustrated easier and it shows in my game.  I get down on myself too much.  With people I don't know I don't talk or act negative about my game.  My friends tell me I would play better if I was more positive.  Its hard to be positive if you're not confident.  I think when I reduce the mishits I'll be more confident.  Its still a work in progress.  Seems like when I'm not mishitting I'm either on the green or not far off.  Being by myself or away from friends allows that concentration to avoid the mishits.  My best round ever was with complete strangers.

That is exactly what I tend to experience. I want so badly to beat the people that introduced me to the game that it gets in the way of actually doing it. Around strangers, it doesn't matter and I just play.

Lately, I've had some success brain-washing myself into treating my friends like strangers. Not unfriendly of course, but distant and none of the usual small talk. Beat the mentor a few weeks back for the second time ever that way.

I think the biggest reason I like to play alone is simply so I dont have to interact with people.

Sometimes it is nice to meet new people, but honestly sometimes it is nice to keep my mouth shut and not have to meet someone new.
I can walk the fairway by myself with my beer and quietly work on my game.

I guess sometimes I can be anti-social.

I play alone and sometimes play 2 or 3 balls at a time. Some of you guys take this stuff too seriously.

That is child's play,

I have played 5 balls at once.

The tough part was keeping score for all 5 balls

I haven't done 5 balls, but have played 4 balls at one time and kept score for all of them.

I played alot the first year alone and still play much alone. I like 9 holes best and 18 when i got friends with me. I fell that i play better with friends, i always play with 2-3 balls when alone. But sometimes it's really nice to be alone.

I play 9 by myself 2-3 times a week. Its faster and i can work on things.I play by myself in about an hour and i walk.

I play nine walking in the evening. It takes about two hours so if I start at quarter after six, I am done by sundown. There is never anybody there so I don't hurry and after I finish a hole, I practice chipping and the putts if I totally misread the green or something. Two balls is just too much walking for me. It is bad enough chasing down a provisional when you find your ball. But since I bought a membership walking is free. I guess if I paid for a cart, I could play multiple balls. I wouldn't want to play alone all the time though. I am always trying to scare up friends to play with.

The biggest problem with two-ball is when you slice the first and hook the second. Nothing is more infuriating that having to walk all the way across the fairway for that second ball.

If I'm in practice-mode and nobody is about, I like to drop a second ball on approach shots, pitches, chips and the like. I'll take a second stab at a putt if I got the first badly wrong.
