This year's Honda is being touted as a Rory vs Tiger story. I am not sure if that is going to happen, but it will be fun watching it play out. I will be at the course on Friday to check out the action live. PGA National is a great track and it is cool having such a great tournament on a course that I have actually played.

Ought to be a good tournament with a really strong field.  I agree, it's fun to see them play on courses that you've played yourself.  Whenever I play a tour course, I buy a yardage book and plot all my shots on each hole.  Then when I watch the boyz play in future tournaments, I can compare their shots to my own.  It makes for a great memory of my own round(s) as well as giving me a lot of enjoyment watching theirs.

Based on those tickets in the OP, it's Tiger vs. Rory (Sabbatini). Much less exciting. :-D

LOL, I had to make sure they were for this year when I received them. Sabbatini is the 2011 Champion. They will have a different champion on there for each day.

Why would anyone think putting Rory Sabbatini on the tickets would be a good marketing tool for the tournament?   Did someone say... "Hey, put Rory on the tickets."  And some idiot in marketing who knows nothing about the tour simply found the first Getty image they could find with Rory ?

Regarding the tournament... This is going to be a statement week for both Tigs and RORS.  #1 and #2 in the world are gonna battle it out.

I could see how an unbalanced butt could play hell with a golf swing!

Last year's story was Tiger vs Rory - seems the marketing is off by a year.  This year will be what it will be

Just leaving the pro am now. Being military, I got a chance to meet and caddy for my favorite golfer Louis Oosthuizen on #17 through the Birdies for the Brave program. Watched a bunch of the guys tee off from there. Louis was very nice and friendly, as was Marc Leishman who I also carried for. My buddy had Mark Wilson and Lee Westwood. Mark was within about two feet, and Westwood hit the top of the pin, but caught a bad bounce to about 30 ft. John Huh also hit it very close. Maybe a foot or two. Tiger was on, but probably 15-20 ft away. Rory was short, but stayed dry. Dickey Pride was really friendly and stopped to chat after dunking one in the drink, then hitting his second a bit short as well. My first time seeing the pros up close, and it was definitely enjoyable!

Should be a good tourney, would like to see Tig's get back on track. Rory will prob need a few more events to bed in the clubs. Might have a cheeky bet on Westwood, if he hits his stride with putting he could be in contention.

Gonna be cold overnight, but not that cold. Upper 30's up here in Orlando Saturday night. Probably mid 40's down there. Mid-60's during the day. Damn, I'm ready for winter to be over!

    • I'm not sure who said it first but I've seen it a lot. There's this "think box" vs "play box" theory. I've also seen it with a planning vs doing line on the ground. The idea is basically you stand away from the ball (a couple feet) and do your "think box". This is where you do your planning, your swing cues, your practice swings (if you believe in practice swings.) All of that is done in the "Think Box". Then you step into your "play box" address the ball and hit it. Sometimes it's done with a imaginary line on the ground. You do all of the think box stuff behind the line. Then once you cross the line you step up and hit it.  Here's Annika Sorenstam demonstrating the "Think box" and "Play box": So, Annika's time over the ball is really short. Because she did all of that other stuff not over the ball, but in her "Think box".  There are lots of variations on this theme. But I think you get the idea.
    • I speak for myself. If I inventory my swing thoughts, swing tempo, optimum muscle tension and rehearse a swing before I take my address, then I pull the trigger reasonably quickly with usually acceptable results. Like a proper program download before deploying it. If I don't bother to by forgetting or just not caring, I am inclined to look for my cues while hovering over the ball after taking the address, while tension builds up and then I fire with a half ass program that is still buffering. I guess that's no better than rolling a dice. In other words, a good pre-shot routine does wonders. I am not advising folks to take 13 practice swings while the flowers wilt waiting for something to happen, but one or maybe two are reasonable and good for you. I am certain hitting half ass shitty shots and making double bogey takes longer than making a par.  My desire this year is to just that as I have not developed a habit taking a practice swing and as a result have tendency to freeze over the ball after address, that is counter productive for both time and result. I think that is what @saevel25 is talking about in the OP.

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.
