Recently received a new pair of nike golf shoes with their own Q-lock spike system. Apparently Nike think they can make improvements on the screw. I had the last laugh thought, didn't even consider buying their irons last month before finally going with Mizuno.

Um, okay? What were your qualms with Q-Lock?

My point is this "why would I buy irons from a company that has demonstrated a willingness to regress, just to put their own stamp on it".

Well, you certainly showed them.

I think you're reading too much into something. Nike didn't invent Q-Lok, a bunch of brands use it and Champ holds the patent. Nike liked the Q-Lok system for whatever reason (they're all plastic/rubber, so I'm guessing it's easier to manufacture than the metal threads), so they decided to implement them into their shoes. They also have a deal with Champ to put their brand on some of the Stinger spikes, but they could do that with any of the Stinger brand spikes. Hell, FootJoy has their name on the Tri-Lok (or Fast Twist) spikes.

I bet you'll wear the shoes though. I'm guessing Phil Knight isn't wringing his hands because you didn't buy his irons.

I´m confused. What has clubs got to do with shoes? More specifically: spikes?

Yup, Im pretty sure Nike is going out of business over this.  Some people are always going to hate Nike just because theyre Nike and will find ANY reason to do so.

I am going to wear them but while I am playing my new Mizuno irons. Again my point is that I didn't even consider buying Nike irons because my perception of their priorities.

If you're basing your perception of their priorities on the spikes they use, even tho just about all other shoe companies use similar technologies, then you're thinking is pretty skewed.. But whatever. Btw, I play mizunos also, but I do know Nike makes some awesome irons. The combo set they have is amazing.

You don't like their priorities (Whatever that means) but you'll still use some of their equipment? Am the only one here who has no idea what the OP's point is?

Hmmm...I guess his point is that if you ever expect to sell him any irons you'd better put the kind of spikes he likes in the shoes.

I guess Nike should have called him and asked his opinion on the spikes.

I have 3 bags of different kinds of spikes in my closet that fit shoes I don't even have anymore, and I am wearing some Skechers that only have the little "spikes" (or whatever they're called) built in all over the bottom.

That's it for that set of Skechers clubs I was going to buy.

When I first read this post, I became so outraged by what Nike had done to the OP that I ran out to the garage, pulled my swoosh-emblazend Slingshot irons out of my bag, bent them across my knee and promptly threw them away.  Then I grabbed my latest copy of Golf Digest, a large Sharpie, and drew horns over the subject's head in an ad featuring Rory McIlroy and his new clubs.  Then I calmed, down, took some deep breaths, collected myself, slowly opened my fury-clenched fists, and began to feel a bit better.

Nike's priority like every smart company's priority is to have their name and logo on as many products as they can.  Nike has used Q-Lok for at least the last 3 years and as Jamo said, they made a deal with Champ to have their name and logo on the cleats for marketing purposes and to make it easier for customers to find the right cleats for their shoes.

Adidas has their own cleats too that they sell in black and white boxes that say Adidas and have the three stripes on them so you might want to throw out any Taylor Made clubs you own too.

Good for you! It's about time that somebody stood up to the satan run monopoly and put them in their place. Quick-loc spikes? We should storm their headquaters with pitchforks & flaming torches!

Nice!  Sounds like something I would do....but there would be many expletives uttered in the process

    • I think 95% is more accurate. The leader of our course rating program shot from the hip and said 90%, but I recently read elsewhere that it is more like 95%. So we spend 4 hours or more on a course with a team of 6 to 8 people to figure out the last few rating strokes as to whether they exist or not due to difficulty. I credit this site/forum for getting my interest up in volunteering for my state association. I am marshalling for the US Mid Am qualifier later this morning 15 min from my home. We get shirts, hats, 1/4 zips, a cart with our name on it, a radio, lunch and unlimited snacks all while watching some great golfers. 🙂

    • Day 2: August 12.  I did 25 balls of the ruler drill from LSW for putting.  24 of the 25 stayed on the ruler through 36" but some were smoother than others.  I suspect if the ruler (and goal) had been 48" far fewer would have stayed on.  I'm trying to go by sound, and not look, since when I attempt short putts, I don't want to look (although now I wonder if that's conventional wisdom that turns out to be wrong).
