I know what you're getting at. But his, while awkward, looked a lot less rigid and artificial.

They both look painful.  She did put pretty well in this tournament, but she did indicate that she may switch.

Jack's posture looks like Igor trying to putt, but it obviously worked for him.

I agree.  Jack still had a lot of arch in his back, which indicates less of a 90 degree hip bend/flex than Wie who appears to be attempting a complete 90 degree angle.  Look at Wie's posture, and her back is completely flat.

she said that she's doing it because the short golfers who are nearer to the ball are the good putters on the LPGA and she's mimicking that - according to what Judy Rankin said during the broadcast

That looked like one of my putts.  Completely miss the hole from 2ft.  It can be done!  Oh, yes it can.

EDIT* actually she is currently ranked 46th out of 149 ranked LPGA players which is higher than I thought. I've seen some spectacular misses though.

She made $158k last year in official money.

Seconded!

She's got one of the strangest putting strokes I've ever seen - can't even really say "at least it works for her", because she hasn't exactly been burning up the greens with it.

Its just a testament to Wie's mental game right now.  She is so lost right now that she will try anything.

Michelle Wie was touted for greatness so early on by everyone that had come in contact with her. Part of the blame has got to be the fault of David Leadbetter for making her so mechanical. Her natural ability was thrown out the window. Dave Stockton could do wonders with her short game and putting. She needs new everything!!

She was a really good putter early on.  I would say Stockton or Utley could fix her issues right away.  I am pulling for her because she chose to stay in college and get a degree.

IMO, putting is one of the areas that suffers most from lack of practice.  All these different putters and stances are Band-Aids or short cuts to getting her putting back to where it was but ultimately she just needs to put more time in.   Until her practice time builds up her confidence she's going to miss putts regardless of the length of her putter.

I agree completely!  There are two instructors that I would never seek out, if I were a pro golfer: David Leadbetter and Hank Haney.  They seem to have ruined more swings than any other instructors.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
