This just in, there will be no more caddie races at the Phoenix tournament.... Not super happy about this decision, I think the races were fun and one more reason to watch the tournament. What are you guy's thoughts?

Yet jackbags are still allowed to yell inane crap a nanosecond after impact. Good to see they got their priorities in order.

With some of the falls those guys have taken I'm not surprised. Looked more dangerous than fun to me.

I get that Waste Management / Phoenix Open is supposed to be a "fun" tournament.  The problem is that people attending and watching WM don't realize that the behavior they encourage there isn't how the galleries should behave at other tournaments.   PGA Tour should consult with Augusta National as they seem to know how to get their visitors to behave properly during a Major.

Look at the attendance at the Phoenix Open, Golf needs more "fun" tournaments. They also attract much younger crowds which is good for the sport.

I agree they are good for golf and attract younger crowds.  They also encourage people to get drunk, yell out annoying phrases and act stupid which isn't ideal for a Major setting.

Those yelling at tee shots should be shot with stun guns and removed from the premises.

The Phoenix Open is already crazy and over the top.  The Caddy races just added an element of danger IMO.  It was just a matter of time before someone got hurt.  When I saw some of those guys diving and tumbling into the green with their golf bag in tote, I was amazed that someone wasn't laid out hurt afterward.

The caddy race is good, clean fun. Who cares if someone gets hurt, it isn't mandatory. People get hurt playing sports all the time but it doesn't mean they are inherently dangerous.

Caddy races are rather benign. Not the be all to end all, but otherwise sort of tame. The cretins who always YELL at impact are selfishly trying to direct attention to themselves. Celebs playing golf do nothing for me. If I want to watch bad golf I can do that by going out to the patio at my club. Lots of it to see right there.

I'm just amazed the tour bans caddy races, but no word on cretins who YELL at golf shots.

The caddies. Because it's their living. There'll be plenty of "yah boo sucks PGA Tour giant fun-sucking corporation liability bullshit" commentary all over, but pretty sure not many of the guys who actually had to do it will miss it.

Anyone know how the first caddy race at a PGA event came about? Was it contrived or did it just "happen"? Was anyone fined or reprimanded?

I'm sure the sponsors and the PGA care.  Thus why it was banned?

    • Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
