Lol, point taken. Although the data seems to confirm my hunch, that Furyk has been a substandard Ryder Cup performer.

He does seem to get worn out pretty easily :-)

Perhaps the most boring golfer in the northern hemisphere.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I'd like to see the Presidents and Ryder Cup teams experiment with the majority of selections being captains picks rather than using Tour or OWGR ranking.  I believe there's a different mind set to match play versus stroke play and just because a golfer is top 10 on PGA Tour (almost 100% stroke play tournaments) doesn't mean they are the best options we have for match play and the alternating formats that are used in these tournaments.

We've had great success in Presidents Cups but it doesn't seem to carry over to the Ryder Cup.

I'd support more captain's picks but I think the majority or at least half of the team should be "earned" non-subjective spots. And since Tiger, Phil, etc. are going to qualify either as picks or by taking some of the earned spots, that supports keeping at least eight earned spots out of twelve.

I get your point, just thought it would be more fun, interesting and might yield better results if the team captain had more input as to who was on his team.  I'd be happy with 6 "earned" and the rest as captains picks as a start.

One thing's for certain: those captains would certainly have more than the teeny tiny minuscule influence on the outcome like they do now.

Which is something I'd be happy to see.  They'd have full ownership of the team and strategy.  If I was Couples and knew going in I was going to take heat for losing, I'd at least want to do it with "my" guys.

I think the US team is better than it was two years ago. And I'm not sure the International team is better or worse? My prediction is a blowout by the US.

My guess is that the team composition would not be that different- Couples really only made 1 captain's pick as Simpson was #11.  Same with Price as he picked a #12 IIRC.

If Couples could have picked all 12 guys, who do you think he would have added and who would have been left out?  Maybe DJ or JF in, but who would have been left out?

Same question with the Internationals.

I'm with MEfree on this one. I think our team is pretty solid, who could be added? Bubba isn't playing that strong right now, either is Furik or DJ or Fowler... Everyone on our list has really been spot on this year. I get match play is a somewhat different animal, but the one hitting better shots and making putts should win just the same.

WE WILL BURY YOU!!!!!!!

I feel obliged to say that, but if past history and current form are any guide -- yeah, it's gonna be another beating for the International team.

And I'll be driving to Texas on Sunday, so I won't get to see it. Just like I didn't see the last day of the Ryder Cup last year. :P

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
