Foxcatcher gets a par from me. Great acting, interesting story but it was very creepy to watch.

Whiplash, birdie. Even though I don't know anything about jazz or tempo it was an awesome movie, especially the ending.

I second this.  Although why was JK Simmons Best Supporting Actor?  He should have got top billing.

Mockingjay Pat 1 - Birdie.  This was the best of the three films so far.  Jennifer Lawrence is a terrific actor.  It is worth it just to watch her.

Wow, I haven't been in the forum for a long time, but I have new sticks and I'm playing golf next month, so I'm all pumped up! So, movies...

I'll get the controversial one out of the way: American Sniper , par. Not bad but not great. Both Fury and Lone Survivor were released the same year and both solid birdies to me. If you want a superior film about snipers, also based on a true story, try Enemy at the Gates .

Mocking Jay, Part 1 , birdie. It's a great film series done very well especially since the novels were geared toward the "young adult" reader.

Grand Budapest Hotel , eagle. It's my kind of humor and refreshing especially compared to the other Best Pic nominated films. May not be your taste, but it's pretty great to me.

Right now I'm just as geeked as possible for Avengers: Age of Ultron .

A Good Year with Russle Crowe. Birdie Had me wanting to see how it ends and maybe I'm a little biased towards liking Crowe? The critics mostly didn't like it, so that shows you how much I know about movies..

I liked Mockingjay1 and think Jennifer Lawrence is a terrific actor, truly, as well. I can't wait to see her career unfold over the next twenty years. I think this is the first movie she overacted in, though. Maybe it's just that the role is getting old for me - the save the world reluctant heroine appalled by the horrors of big bad Big Brother. Every movie I've ever seen her in, however - Hunger Games 1 and 2, Winter's Bone, Silver Lining Playbook, and American Hustle, I think she stole the show pretty much.

A Jennifer Lawrence filmography -

Winter's Bone - Eagle. Loved it. A 21 year old woman star is born. I literally felt like I was watching a female 1950s Marlon Brando appear on the screen in the 21st Century.

Hunger Games 1 - Par. A little too teeny-bopper for me.

Hunger Games 2 - 25-foot putt birdie. Liked it better.

Silver Linings Playbook - birdie.

American Hustle - birdie. Amy Adams, Christian Bale, and JLaw are three of my favorites. Lawrence's most original role, IMO.

Mockingjay 1 - birdie. All of the apocalyptic FX and fantasy world hijinks you could ask for. Donald Sutherland is also the perfect villain. Just looking at his crystal blue eyes and impish grin makes you want to beat the snot out of him in this flick.

Rear Window is coming to theaters nationwide in a week, playing for 2 days. This is such a classic. A tap in eagle. Love watching the classics on a big screen, especially when you sit down and it starts straight into the movie, no ads, no previews, no BS. Probably won't happen for this but in most not chain rheatres, it usually does. http://www.fathomevents.com/event/rear-window

I watched the Edge Of Tomorrow again. The first time I posted about this movie I think I gave it a birdie. If I did, I'm bumping it up to an eagle. Even more impressive the second time around.

I too enjoyed this movie, watched it several times.

Thanks @colin007 , that was interesting reading, will save it.

This is a food movie. It's also French, basically, nothing happens - in the way US films do - slow paced, but I really enjoyed it. Food made without any... hyperbole. I give Haute Cuisine a birdie . It's on US Netflix instant.

Matilda - old movie, but a birdie every time. My 5 year old doesn't have the patience to watch a full movie yet, except for wreck it Ralph maybe. I think he will like this one in a year or two!

Song of the Sea - I was very touched by this film. The hand drawn uniquely styled beautiful animation, the music and story. Unfortunate that it didn't get a wider release. Will definitely be watching The Secret of Kells on Netflix soon (same team). Will have to read up on Irish/Scottish folklore as there's probably some symbolism I'm missing. Just a wonderful film and reminds you why you watch them. Birdie.

Funniest part was when wife asked - why isn't the artificial voice in an English accent? It still is an "American" accent, lol.

New international Mission Impossible trailer. I'm usually the first to say I prefer the TV series, the movies are totally some other thing, but they're still a guilty pleasure. Pretty physical role for man of a certain age north of 50. Looks like fun, will wait to see what word of mouth says.

    • Day 155: did a stack session.
    • Day 230 (19 Dec 24) - Spent some time working the 6i thru varied shots and related adjustments in setup (esp stance) - full swings, partial swing pitches and easy dink and rolls - using the hard foam balls.
    • I visited the PGA Superstore again today. Once again I messed around with the LAB putters. There was another customer there and this guy was totally sold on them. He walked away with one. Anyhow, this guy told me all about them. ... Pretty much stuff that we've already covered in this thread. I did mention to him that I wasn't impressed with the feel. To which he told me you have to try one with the upgraded shaft. So, I did. I have to say the feel was better with the upgraded shaft. Still not the best feeling putter out there, but clearly better than the standard shaft. The feel is also improved (in my opinion) by going with a more traditional grip instead of the forward leaning one. They also had one of the DF3's in blue. Which of course would be my favorite. The DF3 in blue with the upgraded shaft started to scratch the 600 dollar mark.  Once again, I came away thinking that Tour Edge is the way to go. They actually had a face balanced model for $99.99. I have to say it "felt" to my hands much better. Every time I go and test LAB putters I come away thinking more people should buy the Tour Edge putters. Just one man's opinion. BTW - I also tried the Odyssey face-balanced putter. It was okay.  Anyway, my experimenting with the LAB putters is probably over. Not sure when I'll replace my current gamer, but when I do, I don't think it will be with a LAB putter even though it does come in blue. 😜
    • Day 80 - 2024-12-19 Tested out the Garmin R50 for a little while. It seemed to give pretty good numbers.
    • Day 10: 12/19/2024 Had another range session today bringing my new PPJ swing thought to the range. I'm hitting more and more good ones. Right now it's all block training so I get in some streaks where I'm getting the timing right and have several really good shots in a row. I realize I'll need to eventually work in some random training, but I'm not ready for that yet.  As of now, practice is a lot of fun, because I can see results and I feel like I'm making progress.  There will probably be very few range sessions over the next week or so. I plan to do a lot of mirror work and hit balls in the garage net.  Once again, I also visited the PGA super store and putted around with several putters. ... just for kicks.
