@Lihu , I think your drill swings are done too fast. Unless they're supposed to be done "at speed," you should really slow it down so you can change the picture better. You say they're 80%, but they look full speed to me. I'd try to go even half that speed, like 30-40% (to you) and film it, see how it looks.

Also, you need a new mat :smartass:

Other than bring up the "speed" (and "ego" apparently), is there anything you have to add like drills for actual improvements?

@Lihu , I'd like to see you hit some shots at 60% speed with a tee or glove under your left armpit. It'll help "encourage" you to pivot rather than lift the arms on the backswing. Will also help with the downswing stuff.

Just to be clear on my end. When I'm talking about % speeds I'm referring to more of the sequencing/tempo/rhythm. It's more of a feel than an actual measured speed number.  Sometimes you get into the habit of swinging the arms back too fast and the body can't catch up. When I'm looking at your sequencing, I'm mostly looking at your speed and the relationship of the arms/pivot from 1-5.

It's not helping me with my swing.

I think it is, which is why I brought it up. It looks like you're trying to make changes at too fast a speed. You're going to change things much easier by doing them slower. I don't know why you're getting hung up on this, but if you don't want my help anymore, just say so. I'm sorry I made fun of your mat ;-)

I like that.

Tested this out at the driving range, and was surprised that I didn't lose any distance and the balls went straighter. No pulls or slices off grass. I'll try this out on the course tomorrow! Thanks for the reminder. Videos next week. It's going to take some time to get used to this. . .

Going to take a lot of time to get used to this, maybe more than the time it took for me to get used to "high hands". The new requirement to "relax" really makes my iron game as bad as my short game. If I don't relax enough with my new slow takeaway it leads to bad things like shanks. Shanked quite a few approaches. My 4i pin high to 200 yards "shot of the day" led to a double around the green. 3i shot went 220 yards rolling 20 yards past the green into the Barranca. So, at least the shots that made it past "the shank" went nice distances.

On the plus side, I got a few decent drives. I could be back in the 250+ yard category for driving again. . .Two GIR led to 3 putt bogeys, and two led to par. 2 up and down pars. Played a practice 9 hole round for 3 doubles, 2 bogey, 4 par, 4 GIR, 2 scrambles for par. Played 3 additional holes for "range" practice where I finally got decent drives again. Unfortunately, 6 shots were lost around the green and the remaining 2 to penalties. I also over-hit a 75 yard approach by 15 yards with my 60.

I'm already moving a lot slower than my natural cadence. The difference between my 97 yard PW at Erie and my current 135 yards is that I am not trying to do anything and just swing while my swing from a year ago was an isometric movement to slow my swing down. The more relaxed I can be the better. Even though my swing is worse right now (as of today and yesterday), I can see that slowing down the back swing and transition will improve things in the long run (But it is not slowing down my swing as you and many others have been suggesting).

No, you are not.  Not even close.  And remember before you post comments like you just did that all of the people here are trying to HELP you.  Bill is right, you completely misunderstood the point.  Nobody is telling you to slow your swing down, they are telling you to practice it slower.  You've read LSW and the threads on here, I'm sure.  They all say the same thing, as does common sense.  To learn new movements, first you must find the positions, and for all but the most prodigious among us, that means starting out really, reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllly slow.  Not 80%, but perhaps 50, 40, or heck even 10%.

Slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowly.

You've become very defensive lately, for a golfer who shoots the scores you shoot, about stuff. Lots of the people here are trying to help you and you don't seem to be giving the benefit of the doubt to them, or trusting their experiences.

If you find yourself being mad, particularly at me, @billchao , @jamo , @nevets88 , @JetFan1983 , @mvmac , @Golfingdad , @Abu3baid , etc. then you're probably reading what's being said wrong.

Practice SLOWLY. You often - and by often I mean really often - go off on weird quixotic things where you stray from what Mike's told you, you do odd things like put X100 steel shafts in your driver, and all sorts of just weird stuff.

So let me try to make this as simple for you as possible.

You should work on what Mike tells you to work on, do it at the proper speeds, and that is it. Don't change out your equipment all the time. Don't lie to yourself about how far you hit the ball. Don't get in a funk because someone tells you to practice something at a slower speed…

And most of all, man, cheer up. It's just a silly game we play. Have fun.

Thanks, this is appreciated. Yes, I've become really angry about wasting months of time, and unfortunately Bill struck a nerve point with me that started with @Golfingdad 's comments that I was swinging as fast as I could in some video I posted which to me felt like I was swinging half speed or less. So, I spent a couple months worth of time with a SS monitor and swingbyte to try to get my swing speed down. Now, thanks to Mike, of course, I realized that all this crap about slowing down my swing was slowing down the back swing and transition. This change worked fine on the driving range yesterday, but fell completely apart on the course today. I feel like I could have been working on this 3 months ago along with my other swing changes.

This was like wasted development time. I could have been working on my short game and putting. Plus, I am not making progress nearly as fast as I think I should. I've seen a lot of success, but then I still shoot really bad rounds. These rounds really get to me, because there's no good reason for them being so bad. OTOH, there's probably equally no good reason for them to be so good on occasion either.

As far as my equipment is concerned, I am using the "old faithful junk". It seems like steel feels good to me, and now that I can actually swing these clubs it's a cheaper solution. As far as my distances are concerned, I'm posting pretty much what I hit. I gained 33% swing speed or efficiency or some combination of the above. Okay, so I felt really good about this 2 months ago, but it's not good enough to only have this added distance.

Mishits feel really bad to the point I feel like driving my mishit club and anger deep into the ground. I mishit several times this morning, and had some rage built up already.

I agree, it might be time to put golf swing development on hold for a bit and enjoy what I can do now. Maybe I'll relax a bit and shoot better?. . .

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff. 
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
    • First time playing this game, Spanish is my native language. It was impossible for me. After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
