I tried that new Coke Life that's part cane sugar and part stevia. Enjoyed it until I realized it had 40 grams of sugar and I might as well have just been drinking regular Coke. I guess that's one way to get rid of the stevia aftertaste.

My wife has more sense in her pinkie than most people. She is also from New Hampshire, which kind of pisses my Alabama Southerness off. Her observation on men who are using stevia for dietary purpose comes from my father, a recovering diabetic stroke victim who lives with us currently. She says, when will they realize stevia is a plant sugar like cane sugar? Yeah.

How do you think you stack up against other regions? Here in northeast Alabama our problem is that once we get in the playoffs we usually can't match the team speed from teams south of Birmingham.

Out of the 9 schools in the county this year there is only one that might be able to match up.

Maybe they didn't have the time or available equipment.

Might be a lost cause but 8 or 10 D11s and some pulls could at least give it a decent try.

Definitely not but I see no risk at all there. The lava flow has been coming for months at a relatively steady (and slow) pace.

I'm not saying it could be done and I wouldn't know without seeing it but I've worked at coal mines where we moved tremendous amounts of dirt and I don't see the difference (from here).

The insurance on that equipment wont allow a misuse by government agencies, and the workmans comp coverage on any worker specified to run the gear would be denied the next day, causing the volunteer business to fail immediately in the face of its customer demands for such lawsuit protection. Its all insurance.

Could be it. I did see one clip of one bulldozer out there pissing in the wind by himself but he needed a fleet of help to do any good.

I ordered a TV from Best Buy a few weeks ago. Got them to price match Amazon's price, and they offer free delivery of any TV 50" or larger. Did it in a store. Paid right there. Set up the delivery for a week from the date of purchase (because that was the soonest weekend they had open). Got a call the Thursday before the expected Saturday delivery telling me that there was some sort of mixup at their distribution center and that I wouldn't receive the TV on time. They offered to reschedule for tomorrow, I said I'd be at work, and we scheduled it for this upcoming Saturday. Got a call today telling me that the TV has been discontinued, and that I would not be receiving it. That I have to go back to the store (which is ~25 minutes away) to get my refund, and (if I wanted) to pick out a new TV to order. Didn't get an explanation as to why I was able to place the order in the first place, or why it's still listed on Best Buy's website (and Sony's website, and Amazon's website, all as in stock), or why the reschedule call happened. Pretty upset with the whole thing. I ordered the TV I ordered because it got great reviews, fit all of my objectives, and was a decent price. As far as I can tell, it hasn't been discontinued, or at least it's still available through several retailers. Amazon is a no-go because I can't guarantee that I'll be home for delivery, and they won't just leave something like that at the front steps of my apartment. (Unless anyone has an idea that I'm missing.) Next time I'll just see if I can fit it in my backseat before I actually do the delivery. I also tend to forget that even huge LCD TVs are pretty light (the Sony I ordered was ~40 lbs in-box according to Sony's website, which isn't bad at all). I was going to ask about the possibility of some kind of hastily-built dike being able to hold the force of lava, but this article pretty much sums up my speculation.

Anything can be diverted with enough equipment, enough time, enough capacity in the path of least resistance, and gravity.

Probably 30 million dollars to save a million dollar town plus what you have to pay adjacent land owners.

Where else could you have that much fun for that amount of money?

Maybe if there was some sort of natural slope so it could release around without building up too much. That would be fun to play with too.

As a coal miner I would have to go with what I know and that's cutting a bench with dozers and scrapers.

If there was time and money for a 2570 dragline to be erected I would be 100% confident but those were about 35 million dollars the last time I worked on one and take about a year to erect.

Of course that's pocket change for the Federal government. If it was Washington D.C. they would probably buy several of them.

I have seen similiar shenanigans from best buy in the past. my business partner ordered a cheap laptop last year. When delivered, the box was full of water. They claimed to be out of stock when he put in for a replacement, but for an extra $100, he could buy the same thing in store. I really try not to shop there, but I have to walk through one every other week to see one of my customers and I know that one day I will forget to leave my cash at home and pounce on one of their deals.
