It's probably even better that it doesn't scream "golf related."  Online, people are already searching for golf books when they find this on Amazon, so it's not necessary to make it more obvious.  And in the book store, the Borders and B&N; guys have already been kind enough to group all of the golf books onto one shelf for you, so again, you'll know its a golf book because it's there.

And, it might stand out even better without any green or other typical golf stuff on it.

That's part of it.

People don't have to know it's a golf book in a sea of random books. It should stand out amongst golf books.

On my book shelf, 24 of the 31 golf books on one shelf have green as the dominant color. Several feature clubs, balls, or golfers. Putting greens, fairways, etc. Blech. :)

Not looking like previous golf book covers goes in line with breaking old conceptions.

That's another part of it.

Plus, look at http://analyzrgolf.com/ . I think it's somewhat clear that we kind of lean towards a certain esthetic… :-)

P.S. You can ask a few people… we've literally seen hundreds of designs. Some have been pretty bad. And we're STILL trying variations of these. For example:

http://cl.ly/image/3I1L2P3V3I2S

No pencil on the spine (probably won't have that regardless of the one we use), an orange-r pencil so it doesn't look quite as much like a #2 pencil, and the right one has a different sized title (compare it to the left one).

I like the cover with WINS and NOW in orange (subliminal messaging) and your and Dave's names at the top.  You and Dave as authors is what will sell this book.  Both covers are very good and would look great sitting on store bookshelves.

Totally disagree. The average golfer has NO idea who we are. :-)

I don't think printing out the cover at scale makes you dorks. I think it makes you common sensical. Cutting a given dimension out of cardboard to get the tactile feel of a size I would think is not uncommon?

I've met both of them, and they are most certainly Dorks! Super awesome dorks, but dorks none the less. I can say this because...I'm a dork too. My wife reminds me of this on a daily basis, especially when she catches me practicing my back swing in the kitchen. Dork City. :-P

Now that I think about it, pencil on spine. Maybe not such a good idea. Not so much. Do you get the completed Photoshop/Illustrator/whatever file so you can play with it after you've picked the final design? I really like the clean look of the Analyzr and Golf Evolution sites. You look at most golf related sites and design is pretty meh. Especially when they're selling something. Ramp up the tacky factor.

Congrats!  I saw that the book cover was picked!  Not the one I voted for, but I'm sure it was a close margin anyway.

I agree, it stands out with out being flashy. I really like the white background with the black and red text. The image style is a great choice.

    • Bryson got hit with a 2 shot penalty, after the round, for improving his lie on hole 5.  Here is a post on X, showing how he stepped on high grass when he was looking down his target line.  When they cut to the side shot, you can see how close he was behind the ball.  I think the R&A probably made the correct decision. You just have to be really careful when you are walking in the high grass, around the ball and where you are to make a swing.

    • Overall, well said. People have to be very careful in trying to describe very complex problem in simple terms. In this case, it is a clear fundamental misunderstanding of Newton's 1st and 3rd laws.  To clarify more on the misinterpretation of Newton's 1st law. The exact interpretation of Newton's 1st Law....  "Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it" yea, a body will stay motionless unless a force acts upon it. An object will stay on its path of motion unless a force acts upon it.  I get it, complex physics problems are difficult. There is a lot of simplification done in most physics class when it is taught. A classic problem uses a frictionless surface. Projectile motion excludes drag and wind direction. Collisions are usually elastic. The golf swing is not a simple physics problem.  Yea, I think they got caught up the data on the graphs and are not truly understanding cause and effect.  If the golfer isn't first pushing into the ground, then the ground isn't going to push back.  The internal forces of the body create the motion, not the external forces from the ground. The ground isn't like what Psy uses to start his concert. 🤣 You probably need to be connected to the ground and have those GRF to help the body produce the motion you want. Your body has to move in the right way to produce the GRF which helps you move the body in the way you want. Body motion precedes the GRF.
